It's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join as always, 888-808-1019.
Got a great show for you today, as Johnny Harbaugh is running the Giants like the mob. You say something out of turn, you get whacked. Good night, Najee Harris. Nice knowing you. Get out of town!
Chris McMonigle (0:29)
Want to complain about it?
Craig Carton (0:30)
Everybody's on notice. Meanwhile, the Yankees tomorrow are going to have a press conference, reintroducing Yankee fans to the two guys that don't want back. Brian Casper now and Boone and how Steinbrenner did not see a shadow when he came out of hiding yesterday. He's going to be a part of the press conference as well. So that'll be tomorrow.
And of course there's a little something happening tonight, on 33rd and 7th, it's a little something called a ring ceremony, a banner raising and a celebration of the New York Knicks Championship. And I'm here for all of it. Good afternoon, Big Mac. How are you today, Ken?
Chris McMonigle (1:09)
I'm doing fantastic today, Craig. Feeling good.
Craig Carton (1:12)
As you should be.
Chris McMonigle (1:13)
Feeling good, I am.
Craig Carton (1:13)
Got ourselves a celebration of a championship. NBA season starts, actually, before the Knick game. Pistons and Celtics start us off. But the only game anybody cares about is Madison Square Garden. But I want to start with the Giants because interesting that I thought what Najee Harris said was completely innocent and non-offensive. He said, look, it's hard to get into a rhythm. Power phrasing, of course. You know, you get a couple of carries banging out of the game.
Someone else gets a couple of carries banging out of the game. And I think he was, as a veteran player, who's just kind of explaining to people that, look, it's hard to get in any kind of rhythm. And if you're going to judge me on one or two carries, that's not fair for any of us.
24 hours later, he gets a 22 behind the head, unfortunately. And now he is an ex-New York Giant player. And John Harbaugh, kind of like a mobster, telling everybody, Loose lips sink ships, snitches get stitches. And now Najee Harris is no longer a giant. Yeah, I don't think the giants are better for it, though.
Chris McMonigle (2:20)
Yeah, I don't know if they are. I'll be honest with you, I don't know if they are. But I don't think, as much as it seems like that, because that's what happened yesterday, I don't think it's just you opened your mouth there for your cut.
I don't know.
Craig Carton (2:31)
It seems that way.
Chris McMonigle (2:32)
It does seem that way. It does seem that way. And listen, he is the accountability king right now. Gion Ward did not play well, he gets cut as well after two games, being picked up off the practice squad from Minnesota.
Craig Carton (2:44)
Scadaboo fumbles against Bench.
Chris McMonigle (2:45)
Scadaboo fumbles, he gets Bench. Harris complains about it, he's cut the next day. I just think, I think it's Tracy kind of playing well, and I think he agrees with him. I think that's the funny thing about this, is I think the coach agrees that it doesn't make sense to have four running backs, and they felt like he was the weakest of the four right now. And I think Tracy, who is in the dog house from camp on, is starting to emerge as someone who could be a playmaker for them a little bit, and it just doesn't make sense to have four running backs on the roster anymore, and they decided to cut him. I do think it's a little bit of the complaining. I think it's, hey, you know what? I agree with you. You've convinced me. It's silly to have four running backs.
Evan Roberts (3:25)
Yeah, you're right. Get up.
Chris McMonigle (3:27)
I think it's a little bit of that, but...
Evan Roberts (3:29)
You might, brother, I think it probably is a lot of that.
Chris McMonigle (3:32)
It's probably a lot.
John Harbaugh is running this ship. Like, look, he's taking over a franchise, and it speaks to what we expect this team to be and what we thought this team could be. And now we're seeing what John Harbaugh envisioned this team is. A struggling organization that hasn't been able to put it together for a long time, a roster with flaws but some talent, and he was going to come in here and immediately start changing who they are.
Craig Carton (3:58)
Yeah, you kind of look at it with Harbaugh that this is not a one-year plan.
