It's The Carton Show with Big Mac, abbreviated in addition to the New York Yankees do what they do best, don't score any runs, in a game that they kind of had to win against a reeling Mariner team with the Red Sox winning against the Blue Jays today.
It's going to be two in the lost com now, after the Blue Jays get done losing to the Boston Red Sox. Yankees go to Toronto coming up here momentarily, but a great opportunity for a sweep, whoop, right out the window for the New York Yankees. It's up three in the lost com, I apologize for that, but a great opportunity for the New York Yankees to do something they don't do a lot of this year, and that is sweep a team when they haven't beaten down, with the Goose Egg today, all you need is two runs today, because once again, Yankee pitching, phenomenal. Good afternoon, Big Mac, how are you today?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:00)
I'm doing all right, Craig. No, you're not wrong, it's the back to back series with Atlanta, the same thing, they get the first two games of a series, and then it is just a no show offensively for the final game to go and try and get a sweep in here. Here's the bottom line, and I talked about it yesterday, yeah, they're still winning. They won a series, they won back to back series. They had a five and four homestand, not really good enough if you want to go catch the Rays, absolutely, but here's the point, and we know this, and it's not going to change until they get guys back. This offense is capable of winning some close games. Yesterday, ten runs, by the way. Knock it, over.
**Craig Carton** (1:31)
And you needed every bit of it too. Over. Yes, you got it.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:35)
But they're not good enough offensively to string wins together.
They can't go on winning streaks with this offense. They're just not good enough. It's too much swing and miss, and I always point to the guy who should be doing better, and when Bellinger was here and he was struggling, I pointed to Bellinger. Right now, there is no question in my mind.
Jazz Chisholm is killing them. He is atrocious. His swing and miss right now is laughable.
**Craig Carton** (2:00)
Even that last that bad, I mean, right down the pike.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:03)
He's not.
**Craig Carton** (2:04)
Can't make contact.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:04)
And Aaron Boone said it in the post game. I was listening to as much as I could. He's missing pitches to hit consistently, and then he looks bad when his pitcher makes his pitch.
**Craig Carton** (2:13)
Now, to be fair.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:14)
He's killing them.
**Craig Carton** (2:15)
Yesterday worked a good walk.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:17)
Yeah. He has his moments. He has his moments. Here's the point. The offense has their moments. And when you're pitching to this level, having your moments is still winning. I think they're 18 out of 10 in their last 28, or 17 and 11 in their last 28 They're not awful. They're playing pretty good baseball as far as wins and losses go. But they can't string together a winning streak and make hay and separate themselves from the Red Sox, or try and catch the raise. Because this offense doesn't allow it. Because there are too many days like this mixed in, where one home run from a lousy hitter in the second inning cost you the game. It's just, this is who they are right now. And we can keep yelling about it and keep getting pissed about it. It's not going to change until Bellinger standing judge come back. And then, even then, will it be good enough? I don't know. But it will be different. And we'll have to hope it could be good enough. Because again, you don't need to have it be a world class offense. They don't have to lead the world in home runs, run scored and OPS and on base percentage. All they have to do is be decent. And with this pitching, they're going to win a lot of games and can be a threat in the postseason. But right now, Jazz is killing them. He is absolutely killing them. And they don't have enough guys who give consistently good at bats for long stretches. You're going to be able to string together four, five, six wins in a row, even if the position, even if the pitching put you in that position.
**Craig Carton** (3:38)
Bottom line is, it's the same old story again and again and again. The Yankees had four hits today.
