Hour 1: Big Mac Slams Yankees for Lifeless Loss to the Angels

And Big Mac is here, as I will be all week, Craig's still off. We got you till 7 o'clock, 888-808-1019. We got Hoff on the other side, we got Gallo on the other side, and I gotta tell you, after a day of being in my Yankee fields and screaming about how they embarrassed the Red Sox, I did not love waiting up all night to watch them get embarrassed by the Angels. That's not what I was looking for. And quite honestly, as the Mets did what we talked about, we needed a favor from the Mets, and they accomplished it. Lindor tried his best to ruin it for the Yankees with one of the more, you know, just perfect double plays you'll ever see botched and led to a pitching performance that nobody saw coming from Robert Stock getting out of the bases loaded, nobody out. I was following that game. Like, I had my headset on listening to the Mets, watching the Yankees, pacing throughout the entire thing. I'm pacing back and forth, bases loaded, nobody out. The Mets come through, they beat the Rays, and the Yankees go to Anaheim and get embarrassed by the worst team in the American League, and arguably the worst team in baseball right there with the Colorado Rockies. And here was my thought on it, because there's a lot of different things, we'll get to all the different things that happened during the game. But here's the point, and like it's understandable, right? On some level, they just had the emotional series against the Boston Red Sox, right? They travel all the way in one day out to the west coast. Tiki was just talking about what it could do for the body, it's really starting at 11 o'clock at 10 o'clock at night for them, their bodies are off, the offense had come through and scored how many runs over the last two games, they get shut down by a really good pitcher in Walbert and Irina. He's a really good young starting pitcher. You watched last night, he was dotting the outside zone, he was low in the zone, he was throwing breaking balls down for swing and miss. I thought he really looked great. So hey, you go out to the west coast, you're coming off an emotional series where you feel like you've taken command of the top wild card over the Boston Red Sox.
You go out there to play a lousy team, you got a young rookie pitcher on the mound in Rodriguez who you liked what you saw from his most recent start last week, but hey, it's one of those games, it happens. Well, not if you want to win the division. And that's what, to me, that was my immediate. And I'm very positive with Aaron Boone. I still think he's an excellent manager. But I have to admit, watching that game last night, watching the sloppiness, watching them roll around and run around the bases as the Yankees are throwing it all over the place, as we watch Caballero blow an easy double play, as we watch, have to watch Bednar get lit up at the end of the game, an offense completely shut down outside of a home run from Spencer Jones, they weren't ready for that game. They came off an emotional ride that was the Boston series. They got plenty of time to discuss everything that was said that I was talking about yesterday. Oh, they had plenty on Will Fleming. They had plenty on how Jazz was treated in the broadcast media. They got plenty on how the captain makes his first reel. He won't tell us what's going on with him, but he's more than happy to defend his teammates, which that's what a captain does. And I love to hear some emotion at a judge.
They had plenty of time to react to what we reacted to yesterday about how the Red Sox handled it. Plenty of time to react on getting called out in the media. Plenty of time for all that. They just forgot to play a baseball game. And honestly, it is fine. The Yankees are going to probably still win the top wild card. Yes, the Red Sox came back and beat Seattle.
And they've already made up one game in one day off of losing three out of four to the Yankees. And look, it is understandable out to the West Coast. And you are throwing a rookie. And now you're going to see how they handle it, right? Will Warren's going to piggyback Max Fried.
Coming up, they've got pitchers who are hurt. They're forced to pitch a young kid. He didn't really have his good stuff. He was all over the place. He was wild. He wasn't throwing the 98-99 you saw in his last start. It was more like 94-95. And hey, it's a bad night in Anaheim. And you can brush it off. And you know what? They will. I have no reason to think they won't. But if you want to chase down the Tampa Bay Rays, and if you want to take an opportunity of the Mets taking down the Rays and giving you a chance to pick up a game when you know what's looming, you know what you have to do. You know what the division would mean. You know how hard it is to chase down and make up five games in the loss column with 25 to play, and the it's okay, it's a night in Anaheim, I expect them to win the next two out of three isn't good enough. It's not good enough. And the Red Sox were able to come off of their embarrassing performance, and I'm still on that. It was an embarrassing performance. Yankees embarrassed them. They embarrassed themselves in the post game. They embarrassed themselves in how they waved the white flag in the eighth inning. The broadcast embarrassed themselves. Embarrassed, embarrassed, embarrassed, embarrassed. I said enough embarrassing yesterday. And I totally believe that. And yet, they got off the deck, came from behind to beat a lousy Seattle team, and the Yankees headed out west and didn't show up against an Anaheim team that is the worst in baseball. That is a Mike Trout away from having no one that any of us are aware of. They go out and play in the west coast out in Disneyland, and nobody knows about them other than Mike Trout's on the team.
