Good afternoon, everybody. This is indeed The Michael Kay Show. We thank you for joining us on this Tuesday. It's August 11, 2026 Me and you for two. Those are the rules of engagement. It's the fastest moving two hours in Sports Talk Radio. And you're a co-host. You know that, right? By now, you know that. And the membership number is 1-800-919-3776.
1-800-919-3776. We have a lot to talk about. We have a lot of things to get off our chest. We're ready. We're locked. We're loaded. And here we go. 1-800-919-3776. Let's give a little love, just a little, to the New York Mets. Can we do that? Because their offense has come alive. So yesterday, they beat the Braves by a score of 8-5. On this road trip, they have swept Cleveland. They've taken 2 out of 3
From the Pirates. And then the first game against the Braves yesterday, they're 6-1 on the 7-game road trip. Now, they had buried themselves so much. It's going to be a 9-game road trip, but 7 games to this point. They buried themselves so much that there's 14 games under 500 But you can't ignore when good things happen. It's not right to ignore when good things happen. And I'll tell you why. Because it's easy for a team to collapse after trade deadline. It's easy for a team to say, that's it, we're done, we're good, we're out. Start thinking about golfing, stuff like that. It's normal. And on top of that, you have an interim manager. But somehow, Andy Green has kept them together. And the offense, which has been so lousy all year, on this road trip alone, the first seven games of the road trip, they're scoring over seven runs a game. 7.1 runs per game. Not too bad. It's not too bad. Now, if they go off in the remaining games, and go like 30 and 17, I think there's 47 games remaining, they can actually finish 500 Now, I'm not saying that they're going to do that, but you can't discount the fact that on this road trip, they're beating teams that have to win. The Guardians have to win. They're trying to make up ground in the Central. The Guardians are trying to win, and they got swept by the Mets.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are on the periphery of the wild card. They're within striking distance. They actually acquired players during the trade deadline. They didn't trade away, they acquired players. They added, they didn't subtract. So they're definitely trying to win, and they lost two out of three of the Mets. And the Atlanta Braves, very quietly in the National League, there's a little battle going on between the Braves, Milwaukee, and the Dodgers. Now, the Dodgers have lost a lot in a row before they finally squeaked by with a win against Kansas City. Tarek Schubel, his first start in LA, didn't pitch that great, but the Dodgers finally won. Now, the little battle that's going on in the National League is that the teams with the two best records, the division winners with the two best records, they get that coveted buy, right?
So the Braves want to win. They just lost two out of three to the Yankees, and then they lose the first game to the Mets. They want to win. They want to buy. The Milwaukee Brewers want to buy. All these teams are like nothing more for the Dodgers. They have to use three of their great starters in a wild card series. That's what would happen if the Dodgers finished with the third best record of the division winners. So give the Mets credit, and also with all the trades that they've made.
And now an injury to Devin Williams, and quick aside, I mean, we could do an entire two-hour show, chapter and verse, on how bad, right, on how bad David Stearns has been.
It was right in front of David Stearns' eyes what Devin Williams was as a Yankee. It was right there.
