Hi, welcome to Tuesday, and knock on wood, a day that looks like a pretty decent run of only, with a start anyway, of a run that shows very slight chances for rain. 20% today, 20% tomorrow. No rain on Thursday, if it's correct. And then another pair of 20%ers, which are pretty much the same around here as no chance for rain days, except that somebody, somewhere in Southeast Texas, which is where they cast a very wide net when they start forecasting for the greater Houston metropolitan area. That takes in everything from at least to the Woodlands, maybe to Conroe, over to, gosh, darn near, well, at least to Bay City, or Baytown. Yeah, Bay City over there.
At least south to, what, Pearland?
At least northeast to Kingwood, at least west to Katy, at least southwest to, oh gosh, at least Richmond Rosenberg. That's a really big area for anybody to think it wouldn't rain a drop at all this time of year.
It's not like southeast Florida, which is, they get these little pop-up showers routinely, and you can just about count on one coming through your neighborhood. If you live anywhere from West Palm, at least down to Lauderdale, there's going to be at least one pop-up shower in the afternoon, most summers, most summer days, usually around three o'clock. I used to go down there to visit my grandparents. Family would pack up the car and drive for two days, two days to get there. We didn't have flying around money, but we would drive down there over the course of two days, stay a week, and then drive back two more days. My poor dad had to go back to work almost immediately when we got back. Burned up most of his vacation time. But he did it. He did it for us. And in hindsight, being a dad now, I understand how that works. In any event, moving forward, we are still pretty good. Then maybe a 10-minute pop-up shower here and there. All in all, though, pretty good compared to what we had wade through for the last few weeks. Highs in the low 90s, that's kind of settling in now, and it's not gonna go down until November. And then lows in the high 70s, which is darn close to the lows in the 80s we'll get once we ratchet up another notch.
It's cliche. It's horribly cliche. But it's not the heat, it is the humidity that really makes it miserable. I played golf yesterday. My only day off, Mondays. Went and played golf with my friends.
And just, just, you just, it's like a hot blanket, a hot wet blanket on you when you stand out there long enough, especially when you reach my age anyway, and the ages of many of the people in this audience.
I still think back to when I was very young and very confident and just certain that I was bulletproof and I was never gonna age. And I was writing golf then, along with the outdoors. I did, I did golf, I don't know, six, eight, ten years. I did outdoors 23 concurrently. And almost every summer, I would write at least one column about how I liked the summertime, how I liked these hundred degree days we were having.
Because I ran all the old people off the golf courses. And now I'm trying desperately not to become one of those people who won't play when it gets so hot. I have made it, knock on wood, I've made it through every year up to this one, but I'm feeling the heat just a little bit more. I'm still not to the point where I'm going to have to even consider turning down golf just because it's going to be a hot day, but I will, I've learned to hydrate early and often. I hydrated the best I could on Sunday afternoon. The tank was full when I went to bed Sunday afternoon, I can assure you, because I emptied it a little bit two or three times that night. And then yesterday during golf, I drank probably six, maybe seven bottles of water and one Gatorade right kind of in the middle of it all, just to replace some electrolytes. It'll be okay, we're all gonna be okay, but yeah, there you go. By the way, this is just a general reminder again, it's time to get your AC checked if you haven't since last year. I gotta get on the books with my guy and get him out there just to make sure all is well and to safeguard the 10 year parts and labor warranty I got when I bought that unit. Got to do that every year, twice a year, once for the air conditioner basically in the spring, and then once for the heater in late fall. And this is close enough. I don't want to get any farther into it because the last thing I want to do is send somebody up into my attic when it's 130 degrees up there. I'm gonna try to get them up there before it's that hot. And it's already hot up there. Back to where we were, the market showed promise before the opening bell, that just really pulled back pretty sharply as the morning wore on. You just heard on the Fox Report, all four indicators I watch at least are red by at least a point, and the NASDAQ having a really rough day again, down a little while ago by more than 3%.
