This is Well, a podcast about wellness in all its forms. I'm Arielle Lorre, and each week, I'm sharing unfiltered conversations with the people shaping how we feel, live and look. Come for the substance, stay for the honesty, and leave with the tools to be well inside and out.
You are going to hear me say in this episode that I've been wanting to have this guest on for so long. I feel like when it comes to longevity, wellness, nutrition, there are a few people better positioned to guide us through that conversation than my guest today, Serena Poon. I'm so excited for you guys to hear this conversation because she is so dialed into the longevity world, not just the wellness trends that we're all hearing about, but the actual research and the companies and the technology that can and will completely change how we age over the next decade. So Serena is a globally recognized wellness expert. She's a nutritionist and a chef and an entrepreneur. She has decades of experience. She works across private practice, biotech, and different longevity ventures. And I just have to mention her partner and collaborator is Dr. David Sinclair, the Harvard Genetics Professor and one of the most well-known researchers in the longevity space. And the two have co-founded multiple longevity-focused companies together. And I obviously, I would never reduce Serena to who her partner is. She has an incredible body of work entirely her own, but we do reference David and some of what they are working on together throughout the episode. So I just wanted to give you that context. And in today's episode, we talk about what is coming in longevity that sounds almost unbelievable. Why what we do right now can determine how well we're going to transition to take advantage of all of the advancements coming and, most importantly, what do I need to do today if I want to be hot at 60 or 70 or 80 or 90? So we get into skin aging, perimenopause, blood work, wearables, protein, fasting, weight loss, what to eat, what might actually be aging us, and these surprisingly basic things that can have the biggest impact. This one really made me rethink a lot. And I don't want you to think that this is a super rigid conversation or episode. I actually found Serena to be quite refreshing when it came to her own practices and really realistic when it comes to how we can fit these things into our lifestyles. So I hope you enjoy this conversation with Serena Poon.
Welcome.
Serena Poon (2:36)
Hello, thank you for having me.
Arielle Lorre (2:38)
Of course, I was just telling you before we started recording that you've been so high on my list for so long for a guest that I wanted to have on. And I feel like there are so many entry points into this conversation. And we were just talking a little bit off mic about what's resonating with my guests lately. And I think just resonating in general. And obviously you are a huge part of the longevity conversation and all of that. So I would love to talk to you today about things that we can do to have our next best decade. And I don't know if you and you and David are hearing this, but I feel like a lot of doctors that have come on my show lately have said that if you can just hold on for the next five or ten years, like there is so much coming, so many advancements in the longevity space and health span space, do everything that you can to take care of yourself, to be ready when those advancements come. Is that the perspective that you're seeing?
Serena Poon (3:41)
Yes, at 100 percent. I mean, that is literally what we say when we are going around the world, giving talks and meeting with people. That is almost verbatim what we say about what's coming. First, thank you so much for having me. It really is like an honor to be here and it was nice to hear that. So thank you so much. I was just talking to someone yesterday on a Zoom. They're very interested in epigenetic reprogramming and there's so much more than that. And what I was saying was that we're so blessed, like we are literally living in like the Renaissance. You know, to be alive right now, we are so lucky because we have all of these resources. And when we talk about, yes, we just need to hold on and live well and kind of preserve what we're doing now or make it even better for the next five to 10 years because of what's coming. I mean, not only is that true, but with AI and what's been happening, it may shrink from even less than five or 10, five to 10
