DeSantis signing bill requiring schools to teach accurate history of communism. So what does this mean? Accurate history of communism.
DeSantis legislation on when to require an age and developmentally appropriate instruction. The history of communism, Florida school beginning 2026-2027 school year. The curriculum will cover atrocities committed under communist regimes abroad, the increasing threat of communism in the United States, and the communist policies and practices of Cuba and Latin America. DeSantis said many universities across the country try to rehabilitate communism, and Florida will instead tell the truth and the evils of communism and unprecedented death toll in 20th century. Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. said the bill ensures students learn history, so that our students in Florida are not apt to repeat the history. Senator Jay Collins, who sponsored the bill, warned that we fought in the 80s, that communism and socialism was dead, and that we took our foot off the gas pedal, but they never went away. So, you know, before I come to you guys, when we first came here, we went and interviewed at a lot of different schools. We went to St. Andrews, we went to American Heritage and Boca, had a horrible experience with a lady named Cobose.
I think her name was Patricia Cobose, something Cobose. Am I saying the name correctly, Tom?

I think that's right, Patty.

Patty Cobose, yes. And had multiple meetings. I said, okay, we're never gonna do anything with American Heritage. We took all our kids out, and then we looked at St. Andrews, had a very good experience with St. Andrews, but it was too this, too far from us.
And then eventually we went to, what's the local school? The big one, Prestonwood? Preston, what's the local? Pinecrest.

We went to Pinecrest.

And while we went to Pinecrest, I went for the interviews, and a lady sits in front of me, and I asked basic question, ma'am, what's this school's position on capitalism, socialism, and communism? I asked everybody the same question.
The only one that gave me this answer was her. And she said to me, she said, well, we teach our kids the pros and cons of each economical system. I said, what's the pro of communism?
And so she's like, well, there's some benefits to each of these economical systems. I said, I understand that, but where do you guys lie? She says, well, no, our students need to know the pros and cons of communism, socialism, and capitalism. We want the kids to have a balanced understanding of all three. Let me tell you what month this is. Tom, what month would this have been? December of 2020-ish? November of 2020-ish? Because it's right before we're moving. He has something like that. It's late 20, early 21

Yes, right. Okay.

So we're doing these interviews. In a moment, the lady answered the question, and Pinecrest is the place everybody wants to put their kids there.

Oh my God, Pinecrest, this Pinecrest. I walked out, I said, Jen, there's no way in the world I want to put my kids in a place that are teaching pros, pros of communism, and cons of communism.
And you think there are pros. I said, I'm out. That's all she had to say. I got in the car. I said, if the person that's recruiting kids and parents, and when you go to Pinecrest, you know how all of them are?
Like, you are so lucky to do this and all this. I said, this is a unattractive thing. We were trying to get a couple more kids into that place. I said, we're out. I would rather teach values and principles than even give a glimpse of pros of communism after how many tens of millions of people died because of communism. So how do you feel about the story? Because some people would sit there and say, well, don't you want to give freedom of speech? But this is not really a freedom of speech. It is forcing teachers, who we know 98% of English teachers are Democrats. They put their money on the left. We know what campaigns they support. A lot of these are Bernie people. Now they have to actually be forced to say bad things about communism and socialism. How do you force these socialist teachers to do that? You can't force them to do that. You're still going to put their own spin in it, no, Tom?
