High Stakes with HRC: The Accountability Episode

On with Kara Swisher

October 21, 2026

Welcome back to High Stakes, a limited series from Kara Swisher and cohost Hillary Clinton. Ten years after Hillary called Trump Putin’s “puppet” on the debate stage, the label is back, and so is the fight over Russia. Corruption is now one of voters’ top concerns.

I'm Ina Garten, and each week on Happy Hour, I invite new and old friends for a drink and a fun conversation at my kitchen table in New York City. On this week's episode, I'm joined by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. We talk all about attending a fashion show in Paris together, throwing dinner parties, and making her Broadway debut in other desert cities.

New episodes of Happy Hour are available every Wednesday. You can watch on YouTube or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

SPEAKER_5 (0:54)

Hey, everybody. Sue Bird here. This week on Bird's Eye View, I'm thrilled to be joined by none other than Flau'jae Johnson, aka Big Four. We talk about what it's like being a young guard in the league, blocking five-time MVP Asia Wilson, and breaking rookie records, including one of mine. But first, Fla and I preview what to expect from the WNBA finals between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream. Make sure to check out Bird's Eye View on YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts.

Kara Swisher (1:22)

He could get you if he wanted to.

SPEAKER_7 (1:23)

Oh, he has tried. Don't let anybody tell you contrary.

Hillary Clinton (1:26)

I can tell you about that too.

SPEAKER_4 (1:37)

Hi, everyone.

Kara Swisher (1:37)

I'm Kara Swisher.

Hillary Clinton (1:38)

And I'm Hillary Clinton.

Kara Swisher (1:40)

We back.

Hillary Clinton (1:41)

We're back, Hillary.

SPEAKER_4 (1:42)

We are.

Hillary Clinton (1:42)

They're back again.

Kara Swisher (1:44)

What the heck? Have you got good response for this?

Hillary Clinton (1:46)

I have had an amazing response. And it's been lovely. People have told me that they loved listening to us together. A lot of people say they're a Kara Swisher fan. So thanks for doing it with her. So, yeah, it's been terrific.

Kara Swisher (2:00)

Oh, good. Well, I'm glad. Well, we have a lot to get to today. And I just want to say welcome back to High Stakes from New York Magazine and the Vox Media Podcast Network. Now, the midterm elections are less than two weeks away, and we're talking about issues that matter most to voters. We're very interested in helping voters with substantive discussions here. This week, we're going to be digging into corruption and accountability as our topic of the week, because there's plenty of that. We're going to get into the headlines. But first, were you out of a karaoke party last night?

Hillary Clinton (2:28)

Oh, I was. I have a political organization called Onward Together, and we partnered with the Latino Victory Fund to have a night of karaoke. And it was incredible. We had Broadway stars. We had TV stars, movie stars. We had all kinds of people who gave their time to this event last night. So, yeah, I'm a little bit tired.

Kara Swisher (2:53)

I heard you did not sing.

Hillary Clinton (2:55)

I did not sing, because...

Kara Swisher (2:56)

Why not?

Hillary Clinton (2:57)

Well, Kara, I do have a Grammy, but my Grammy is for the spoken word.

Kara Swisher (3:03)

Drop that one right. I do have a Grammy.

Hillary Clinton (3:06)

I mean, in high school, the drama teacher let me join my friends in our annual musical as long as I lip-synced.

Kara Swisher (3:13)

What would be your karaoke song if you sang?

Hillary Clinton (3:17)

You know, I would sing anything because they put the lyrics up there. And there's a lot of songs that I really like. I would have loved to have sung Keep Marching from Sufts because I thought that would have fit the moment, right?

Kara Swisher (3:30)

I was thinking Gloria Gaynor, I will survive.

Hillary Clinton (3:32)

Yeah, I will survive. That's not bad. I would maybe sing Fight Song by Rachel Platton.

Kara Swisher (3:38)

The Fight Song, right? Yeah, that's right. You have a lot. I'm still here with Stephen Sondheim.

SPEAKER_10 (3:42)

I love that, yeah.

Kara Swisher (3:43)

You know, you can have a whiskey in your hand.

President Trump is catching bipartisan flack. This is right in your wheelhouse now for waving new Russian sanctions days before they kicked in. And now the White House is trying to buy some time. Marco Rubio says the president will take up to two months to weigh what the sanctions would do to the economy and doesn't want to scare Russia away from peace talks. You posted a snippet from one of your 2016 debates. It's going all over the Internet with Trump. That was very prescient. Let's play that.
