Our case this week, what happens when your boyfriend and your husband decide that they're ringing in the new year together without you? Well, if you are the cheating wife in this love triangle, you might feel a little left out. Apparently, it drove one woman to the brink and she decided to shoot up the party where two men were having fun without her. Who exactly is the scorned here? We're recording this on Friday, June 5th of 2026 We have a new guest today, everyone, Jen Coffindaffer, a retired FBI agent, a crime analyst, a host of Break the Case. Now, for a woman of your pedigree, we apologize for the trashy nature of this case that we chose, but I'm absolutely fascinated by the dynamics of this, what I call a reverse triangle.

Yes, absolutely. Thank you so much for having me.
This is one of the most interesting cases. I mean, you think you're going into a gang shootout. That's what it seems like, a drive-by shooting. And then when you discover the dynamics here, it's very unusual.

**Ana Garcia** (3:31)
It is because the whole love triangle thing is usually when there is one person that's usually left in the dark, and sometimes that triangle rotates depending on who knows what. But in this case, the one who's in the middle of it, she's the one who's been left out by the two men.
And this is clearly upsetting her, which I just, you know, I know as an FBI agent, so much of what you do has to do with human nature and how people handle things. And so the fact that she's so outraged, if she's the one who's having a relationship with each of them and they're like, you know what? We're gonna have our own friendship and you're excluded. I just like of all the things to set someone off, I just find that so interesting.

**Jen Coffindaffer** (4:21)
Well, it really shows what kind of a human she is, right? This was all about, in my opinion, control. Not only controlling her husband, but also controlling this boyfriend, keeping them separated and kind of having two puppets on her puppet master strings. I think she would have added a third and a fourth if she could figure out how to do it. And I think it infuriated her when the puppets started working together without being controlled. And I think that that is really the genesis of exactly why she decided to commit this, what almost ended up being murder.
