Data Over Dogma
September 7, 2026
This week, we're taking issue with Mark Driscoll, who recently explained that a wife is a garden, a husband is the gardener, and — out loud, on purpose — that the finished result is "beautiful property.

So, I feel like an adult, because I actually have a storage space now.
And I recently spent a couple of days, I rented a van and moved everything from my basement into the van to take it to the storage space so we could finish my basement. And my back was killing me at the end of both days, and it felt so nice.
Dan Beecher (0:20)
You're definitely an adult, you're just an old one.
Dan McClellan (0:23)
It felt so nice to climb into my Brooklyn bedding, plank firm lux mattress, and know that I was going to get a great night's sleep. And I feel very similar when I come home from traveling, where I've been on really, really crappy motel or hotel mattresses. I have never been so in love with going to bed on a specific mattress. But the mattress that I got from Brooklyn bedding has been so wonderful. My wife and I, we both love a firm mattress, and this is the mattress of our dreams, and it is lasting longer than we were expecting it would, and we're so excited about that. And yeah, Brooklyn bedding has just knocked it out of the park.
Dan Beecher (1:06)
Yeah. And look, they know that sleep isn't a one size fits all scenario. It's not even one size fits all on this podcast. You like the firm, I like the soft and squishy.
It's whatever you dig. So get out there and try Brooklyn bedding. If you sleep hot, you get the Glaciotex covers, the copper infused foam that helps regulate your temperature. And look, there's no danger here. Brooklyn bedding offers a 120 night comfort trial.
You love it or they'll help you return it or swap it hassle free. And if you don't want to take my word for it, Brooklyn bedding has been awarded best mattress by CNET, best hybrid mattress by Wirecutter. So you know, it's the real deal.

And a lot of guys look at a married woman. They're like, I wish I could find a girl like that. That's like looking at a piece of land that nobody's, you know, ever worked on. Versus looking at a place where for 30 years a guy's been cultivating his land. And you look at the land and you're like, look at that beautiful property.
Hey, everybody, I'm Dan McClellan.
Dan Beecher (3:14)
And I'm Dan Beecher.
Dan McClellan (3:15)
This is Data Over Dogma, where we increase public access to the academic study of the Bible and religion, and we combat the spread of misinformation about the same. How are things, Dan?
Dan Beecher (3:26)
Things are good. Things are good. It's a it's a sunshiny day and life is pleasant all around us. And we're going to talk about awful things. So what could go wrong? Yeah, we're going to start this today with a what are we calling this one?
Dan McClellan (3:44)
Taking Issue.
Dan Beecher (3:45)
Oh, we're going to take issue. And boy, when you got Mark Driscoll in the loaded up, you're going to take issue.
Dan McClellan (3:53)
And you got to come loaded for bear. And this time we're going to read the transcript of some things that Mark has said. And we know that you're going to be biting through your tongue and you're going to be pulling the armrests off of your chair the whole time. But just be patient. We'll get to it.
Dan Beecher (4:13)
We get to do misogyny with this one. He covers many different areas of being a jerk, but this time it's misogyny. So that's going to be fun. And then in the second part of the show, it's going to be. What's that? What's what we're doing? And we're going to be playing the telephone game because a lot of people are making claims about the transmission of the Bible and the reliability thereof. So that's what we'll do in the latter half of the show. But for now, let's take issue.
