All right, welcome aboard to another edition of Fifty Plus. Thank you all for listening. We really do appreciate it. Nice weather around here for a few more days, several more days, actually. So feel free to make some outdoor plans. We've got highs around 90, maybe 91, but that's way better than 100 So let's just count our blessings, if you will. And even better, on the low side, the overnight temperatures are starting to get down toward the 60s, and hopefully they will get there and stay there, and we can get out of this long, long hot summer we had. If you like being outdoors, these next several weeks are going to be great times to be there. And by the way, there's a storm brewing in the southwestern Gulf, and the National Hurricane Center gives it a 90% shot at earning a name this week. That said, though, high pressure moving down the continent is expected to push that thing, whatever it becomes, into the northeastern Gulf.
Expectations are for little or no impact along the Texas coast, and even if this thing does boil up, from the markers I look at, it shouldn't turn into anything major. And once again, no expected impact along our coast. Quick look into the markets too, even before they opened this morning. That's the last time I took a look. I had meetings and stuff today. All four indicators were solidly green, and oil was at $88 and change, and I hope it continues to drop like that. Our own governor, by the way, and our president, I believe it was, yesterday, lifted some restrictions on diesel fuel that will enable farmers to at least get a little bit of break from the crazy high prices of diesel that have been moving around this country. It's harvest time all over the country, and the sooner they can get those diesel prices down, the better for all of us. Moving into some of what I would consider pretty troubling news, actually, for this country of ours. I read over the weekend, and confirmed through a second source, that California no longer recognizes Easter or Good Friday as state holidays. However, it does recognize two Muslim holy days as state holidays.
Prior to signing the bill that created those two Muslim days as state holidays, Governor Newsom out there also had a bill on his desk that would codify several Jewish holidays, and another that would have guaranteed students in grades K through 12 excused absences for religious holidays. He waited pretty much until the eleventh hour to sign those bills late Wednesday, probably after some final sane person in his administration shared the harm he was about to do to his state, and even more importantly to get about Gavin, any aspiration he might have of becoming president in 2028 Worth noting, by the way, Washington state also recognizes those same Muslim days as state holidays. What is it about the West Coast that makes those people tend to lose their way a little bit more than the rest of the country? Well, excluding New York, I suppose, it's already lost. So is Dearborn, so is Minneapolis, so is a whole lot of the blue cities.
They're just going in that direction. And the momentum is such that it's going to be very difficult to push back. All right, moving on. Don't know if you've heard this yet, but that deranged co-pilot who tried to hijack his pilot on a fly Dubai jetliner by, he was swinging a crash ax, which is a very nasty little weapon. Great if you need to get out of that cockpit somehow, but he was swinging that at the pilot and made a bloody mess of the cockpit. If it weren't for some really brave passengers on that plane, this terrorist would likely have just flown it into the ground. During the attack, the plane dove some 18,000 feet, and very luckily, the wounded captain somehow managed to get to the door and unlock it to let those passengers in.
Hijackers name is Hamam Al Hamami. Hope he gets put away for the rest of his life. By the way, I meant to mention this on Friday, but didn't get a chance to. At that September 30 event at the University of Texas, radical socialist Hassan Piker said that if all the election help James Tallarico has gotten from socialists, land him somehow in the US. Senate for Texas, he's gonna have to quote play ball, end quote, with progressives and abandon all that moderate talk he's spitting out now in his TV commercials. The socialists absolutely own James Tallarico. Now, don't let his good old boy pitches fool you. Tallarico is working overtime very hard to erase or mask lots of his liberal votes and radical positions, trying to present himself here in the 12th hour or 11th hour, whichever it is. I can't remember how that saying goes.
