"He Wanted To Be A Red Sox" - Yankees Rookie Becomes Boston’s Nightmare

Valuetainment

October 6, 2026

Cam Schlittler grew up in Massachusetts dreaming of pitching for the Red Sox. Instead, he's a Yankee, and now he's Boston's worst nightmare. In Game 1 of the Wild Card Series, he threw 6.1 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts on 117 pitches, the most by a Yankees pitcher since CC Sabathia in 2012.

I get so many headaches every month. It could be chronic migraine, 15 or more headache days a month, each lasting four hours or more.

SPEAKER_2 (0:07)

Botox, autobotulinum toxin A, prevents headaches in adults with chronic migraine. It's not for those who have 14 or fewer headache days a month. Prescription Botox is injected by your doctor. Effects of Botox may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms. Alert your doctor right away as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems or muscle weakness can be signs of a life-threatening condition. Patients with these conditions before injection are at highest risk. Side effects may include allergic reactions, neck and injection site pain, fatigue and headache. Allergic reactions can include rash, welts, asthma symptoms and dizziness. Don't receive Botox if there's a skin infection. Tell your doctor your medical history, muscle or nerve conditions including ALS Lou Gehrig's disease, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eton syndrome and medications including botulinum toxins as these may increase the risk of serious side effects.

Why wait? Ask your doctor. Visit botoxchronicmigraine.com or call 1-800-44-BOTOX to learn more.

Patrick Bet-David (1:00)

The Red Sox apparently played against the Yankees. Twice.

SPEAKER_2 (1:03)

And Tom, you told me that they won.

Patrick Bet-David (1:05)

The Yankees won. They advanced. Yankees won? Yankees. Very interesting angles on the story. The pitcher for the Red Sox, Sonny Gray, who used to play for the Yankees, came up with the Oakland A's, right? Play for the Yankees. And all of a sudden, the market's like, what the hell is this pine tar on his neck?

I don't know if you guys have seen this or not, and he keeps wiping, look at this, on the right side of his neck, right there, right there. You see what he wiped? To be able to have a little bit more velocity and grip because the weather's cold, right? So they're saying, this is what was going on in the post-game interview. And by the way, the other guy for them, who is the guy that, Contreras, who hits the home run, takes him 28, 29 seconds to go at the end. He was walking. They're like, you're walking as if you are ahead or winning. And Sonny Gray is doing the interview afterwards. And look what he had to say. Go forward.

SPEAKER_4 (1:57)

I think I'm the best pitcher in the American League.

Vincent Oshana (2:00)

Going through the order the third time.

Patrick Bet-David (2:03)

He still does the funny commentating.

SPEAKER_6 (2:04)

Let's back it up. Sonny Gray, you are an absolute joke. Before pitching a do or die game two, he talks shit about the Yankees saying, I never wanted to go there in the first place. It feels good to me to go to a place where it's easy to hate the Yankees. And even with all that confidence he claims he has, he comes into Yankee Stadium with pine tarl over his neck.

Patrick Bet-David (2:24)

Look at this, pause it, pause it right there.

Vincent Oshana (2:26)

I'm gonna go back a little bit and pause it right there.

Patrick Bet-David (2:28)

Go back a little bit. Look at that. By the way, do you know what's my favorite part of the story? Let me tell you what's my favorite part of the story. This is all leading to my favorite part of the story. Do you know the pitcher for the Yankees that Tom says is probably gonna win the Cy Young and potentially the MVP?

Vincent Oshana (2:43)

Cam Schlittler.

Patrick Bet-David (2:43)

Okay, do you know what's the special story about Cam? Do you know his background?

Vincent Oshana (2:46)

Not really.

Patrick Bet-David (2:47)

Do you know when he was coming up, you know what city he's from?

Vincent Oshana (2:50)

Boston.

Patrick Bet-David (2:50)

He wanted to his dream was to play for the Red Sox. They turned him down.

Vincent Oshana (2:55)

What a great story.

Patrick Bet-David (2:56)

He goes and plays for the Yankees, right? And when he plays for the Yankees, can I share some stats with you? Just so you know, in the game that he had playing against the Red Sox, he pitched for 6.1 in inks, 10 strikeouts, zero earned run. Nothing. He gave up nothing. But that's not the big deal.

He finished with 117 pitches in the game.

The last time a Yankees pitcher pitched 117 pitches in a game was in 2012 It was a guy named CC Sabathia. This is not a common thing. Tom can tell you 117 pitches today is unheard of today. This is not a new, no, no, it's not. But let me tell you what gets even more exciting about this. Across two postseason starts against the Red Sox, he's pitched, he's given zero runs, 22 strikeouts. And out of his six career starts against the Red Sox, six career starts against the Red Sox. Guess what his ERA is against six games against the Red Sox. Point nine. I mean, point five is his ERA.
