Hello, and welcome to SideQuest. This is our weekly video game show here at GeekVerse. I'm your host, Dylan Luss, and I have with me the sheep, Taylor Field. How are you doing tonight, my friend?
Taylor Field (0:27)
I'm doing good, doing good. Happy to be here. Very excited to talk what we're going to talk about.
Dylan Luss (0:33)
Yeah. No, definitely an exciting episode of SideQuest because I feel like all of us here at GeekVerse haven't really been playing a lot of new games lately, but we're finally back with a review, and that is for Halloween, of course, which came out last week, and Taylor's been playing a whole heckload of that, so he'll be sharing all his thoughts on that. And then I just have, what have I been playing, new games? Nope, I'm back to Hitman, and I'm playing Hitman, and I'm playing Hitman in a new way, and so I'm excited to talk about that as well. That's pretty much it. It's going to be probably a quaint, cute little episode of Sidequest here. So yeah, honestly, let's just get right into it. So yeah, Halloween came out last week. This is, of course, the asymmetric multiplayer game where someone is playing as the shape, and then everyone else is running away from him.
But I honestly, I've not watched much gameplay of this other than the trailers, which I feel like we're... I guess there's probably a lot more trailers than I watched, but I just saw a little bit here and there. So Taylor, yeah, walk me through this thing, because I know you love the kind of background of these games. So I feel like you can give that context to like the other things in the genre that you've played leading into this. But I know you're very excited about this game and the Discord, you've been talking about it a lot. So it seems like you're pretty jazzed about it. So yeah, walk me through this bad boy.
Taylor Field (1:48)
Yeah, I'm jazzed for sure.
These kind of games, they're sometimes hit or miss for me. I can either gravitate to them and latch on. Sometimes I don't, but it feels like old faithful is dead by day. That's the one you can hop onto and you can play, and it's always there. There was a new characters and stuff like that. It's very easy to do. I like it. I like it for what it is. But at the same time, it's just I feel like it's just so hard to actually deal with the villains. And there's all these extra mechanics that they've added in that I haven't really studied and analyzed and deep dived into. So I'm not, I'm not, I don't feel super invested into it. Then you have Friday 13th. This game comes along biophonic and it was just the bee's knees. I was playing the heck out of it. It was just so freaking fantastic. And the game was buggy. It had so many problems, but there was just this very awesome aesthetic and aura to it where the different Jason skins, and each Jason skin has a different weapon and the different weapon does different executions and all that. And you got the different characters that have, I don't even think they had different abilities back then, but you just get different characters, counselors, and you get different weapons and stuff. And it's just a simple mechanic. There's like seven or eight of you in the map. You get a CB radio, you can call back. So if one of you dies or escapes, they can come back as Tommy Jarvis.
It was just such a simple thing. Jason grabs you.
I'm labeling all these things because they're relevant with the Halloween game. You get your pocket blade that is like an auto like D grab. So you get out of his grab and all that stuff, and you get weapons where you can hit him and you can knock him down so he falls back. And then he can teleport around the map, does a little fast travel kind of thing, and has a couple other little abilities as Jason. So all these things, while it was very unrefined, it was a baseline for what we're getting with this. And at the time, we didn't know we were getting the Halloween The Game, so all the rights issues happened. Friday shuts down. It's like, oh, are you kidding me? I really love that game. Then Texas Chain Saw Massacre comes out. And that game, really fucking fun. I want to go back there and I want to play it against some more because they've added new villains and characters and a whole bunch of other new things to that game.
