The passage of time will now bring you to something strange, unique and idiosyncratic.

Have a good time.

From the padded cells of Smith's Grove Sanitarium, to the leafy streets of Haddonfield, Illinois, we are Halloweeny.

Michael Roffman (1:35)

Greetings, listeners, and welcome back to Halloweenies, A Horror Franchise Podcast, or should I say, a Michael Meyers podcast. Yes, we are officially in October. It is October 1st when we're recording this. I am looking out right now at Haddonfield, aka South Pass, and I'm seeing not much change. It's a little hot and none of the leaves have changed colors, and we do get the color changes on the leaves, and the leaves do fall, but they are not falling now. You can blame it on El Nino. Or El Nino?

I can't keep up anymore.

Dan Caffrey (2:09)

It's Nino right now.

Michael Roffman (2:10)

Nino? Okay.

Dan Caffrey (2:11)

Why not both?

Michael Roffman (2:12)

It could be both. But look, we are here kicking off the spooky season coverage, our Halloween Haddonfield coverage, with a tradition that I have really grown fond of. And I cannot believe we're already done with the OG's books, but we're going to be talking about Halloween IV by the great Nicholas Grabowsky.

It's the fourth novel based on, you guessed it, Halloween IV, The Return of Michael Myers from 1988 I am your host for today, Michael Myers-Roffman. Lots of Myers in the air. I am not alone here at Haddonfield Public Library. Here, next to me, is the true Michael Myers scholar himself. Please introduce yourself and tell us, is this the first time that you've flipped through the pages of Halloween IV?

Dan Caffrey (2:57)

This is Dan, Cop Stewett by the book, Caffrey. And yes, it is. I've been wanting to read this for a long time, and once we started covering the novelizations, I held off on purpose. Now, I should say, I read the Authorized...

No, the Authorized Ultimate Edition, which...

Michael Roffman (3:15)

Oh, interesting.

Dan Caffrey (3:16)

Yeah, we can talk about what may or may not be in both of the versions that we read.

I didn't spot anything, too. There are a couple things that weren't in the movie, but I imagine it's pretty similar. There's like an epilogue and an introduction, everything. But anyway, you have the copy that's hard to find, right? Like from the 90s.

Michael Roffman (3:32)

I do. I have the OG Halloween IV. Now, this is the second time I bought this, because when we first did our Halloweenies run in 2018, our first season, which we're covering the Halloween franchise, I had Halloween I and II in the books, and I didn't have III, but I knew that Mack had III. But I bought IV.

But the issue was that I was going through a divorce, and so I left my original abode and went to a new abode. And the issue was that the mail was continuing to go to my old house. Neither my ex-wife or I were living in at the time, but my neighbor had picked up all our mail. And if you know me well, and many of you do, many of you don't, but I am kind of a flake when it comes to having to commit to things, because my life is fucking crazy, and I'm always going, I can't make it, I can't make it. Well, I did that so many times that the neighbor finally just threw out the garbage. And in that pile of mail, I'm pretty sure was that a copy of Halloween IV, which at the time I believe I had charged on my credit card for like a $300 thing. So it's expensive. This one's very hard to find, unlike even Halloween is easier to find now, which is kind of nuts.

Dan Caffrey (4:47)

Even the, I should have bought it a few years ago, the edition I read, which I had to read on Scrib because that was the only place I could find it. Even that's become expensive. When it came out in 2020, I remember you could get it for like 20 bucks, but now you can't.
