Think about this. We spend more time planning our vacation than we do planning our lives. When we're gonna go, how we're gonna go, who's gonna go, how much we're gonna spend on it, when we're gonna come back.

But we don't spend the same amount of time planning our lives. And so to me, if you and I can live our lives strategically, then we have a great advantage over other people. Because I don't know how you know, if you don't know where you're going, how do you know when you arrive?

And so to me, if we take control of our lives and we take control of personal development, I think we have a huge advantage over everybody else. Because most people are just living from day to day. And they're not living with a sense of purpose.

Michael Gervais (1:04)

All right, welcome back or welcome to the Finding Mastery podcast. I'm Michael Gervais. And the idea behind these conversations is to learn, to learn from people who are on the path of mastery, to better understand what they're searching for, not so that we can do the same as them, but maybe we can search for the same thing they're searching for. We wanna understand their psychological framework, which is how they understand how the world works, how they understand how their unique world works, the craft that they've invested their time in, and how they understand how they work. And then even deeper below that, we wanna understand the mental skills that they use and have used to build and refine their craft.

I wanna take a minute here to announce a really exciting event that we have coming up. As you continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities of 2024, I wanna pose a question. What are you doing right now to be great with stress? How are you working with stress on your pursuit towards your most important ambitions and goals? And I just wanna get right to the heart of the key elements, one in particular, for what it takes to excel in today's high heat, high stakes world. Because stress is not the problem that we think it is. Stress is a synonym for change.

And our ability to be agile with change, that is the real opportunity at hand. So if you're wanting to unlock extraordinary results and sustainable performance in your life, it's not about avoiding or reducing stress. And as simple as that sounds, it's very tricky to do. But it is about fundamentally changing your relationship with it. And that's why I'm so thrilled to invite you to a special event. It's a free virtual event that we're offering. And it's called The Power of Embracing Stress. It's on Wednesday, March 6th at 2 p.m. Pacific. So if you're in the basketball world, you definitely know his name. If you're new to basketball or not really sure what you have to learn from basketball, let me just set up what he's done and then share some of the reasons why I think this conversation is relevant to all people, not just coaches, not just athletic minded people, but all people that want to grow and learn. So he was first a head coach at Washington State University from 1972 to 83 So he's been at this for four decades, right? The University of Iowa for another couple of years there and then University of Southern California from 1987 to 1994 He was a three time Pac-10 Coach of the Year, which is a very competitive league.
