Carton Show, Big Mac. By the way, crazy story.
I was reading a little bit of that earlier today, that there's a guy that plays hockey for the Pittsburgh Penguins, I never heard of the guy, named Andrei Kuzmenko. Is he a household name? Is he a well-known dude? Do you know him?
Chris McMonigle (0:17)
I don't know him all that well, no.
Craig Carton (0:19)
Anyhow, he is just taking a leave of absence from the Penguins, because he got a phone call, I guess, yesterday. I think they were in pre-season now, or a training camp or something?
Chris McMonigle (0:28)
Pre-season.
Craig Carton (0:29)
Apparently, his father, his father Alexander, was doing a little fishing, in I guess his home country, wherever the heck that is. Obviously, it's over in Europe somewhere. And he was eaten by a bear.
So he's dead.
Chris McMonigle (0:44)
Eaten by a bear?
Craig Carton (0:45)
Yeah.
Chris McMonigle (0:46)
He got the call that his father was eaten by a bear.
Craig Carton (0:48)
His father was eaten by a bear.
Chris McMonigle (0:49)
Does he work at the circus?
Craig Carton (0:51)
No, he was fishing.
Chris McMonigle (0:53)
Did you say that? I did. I said that. I'm sorry. Bad listener.
Craig Carton (0:56)
But that's not the point of the story, is that he got eaten by a bear. That's a bad way to go.
Even if it's like a surprise attack, there's still a level of pain that you're going to feel. Even before the bear ingests you or whatever he does to you.
Chris McMonigle (1:10)
It also depends on where he starts eating you. Yeah. If he starts at the feet and works his way up, that's really bad.
Craig Carton (1:17)
Yeah, that'd be a tough one. Anyhow, so thoughts and prayers out to Andrei Kuzmenko. Yeah.
SPEAKER_3 (1:25)
Do you think he gets told like right away that the first thing is, hey, your father got attacked by a bear?
Craig Carton (1:30)
Yeah, I don't know how you tell some of that.
Chris McMonigle (1:31)
I think it's just, yeah, your father died. Hey, we have bad news.
Craig Carton (1:33)
You just say your dad's dead.
Chris McMonigle (1:34)
Yeah, and a fish in an accident.
Craig Carton (1:35)
But then of course you're going to say, well, what happened? And then you have to tell him a bear ate him. Maybe just come out and rip the bandaid off on that one, I guess.
Chris McMonigle (1:43)
Do you do like a what?
SPEAKER_3 (1:44)
Your dad had an accident.
Chris McMonigle (1:46)
No.
Craig Carton (1:47)
Like, you can't slow play it, I don't think.
Chris McMonigle (1:49)
No.
Craig Carton (1:49)
He was fishing in a restricted area of Russia's Republic of Tuva, wherever the heck that is.
And I guess a grizzly bear came and ate him.
Yeah. Or I assume it's a grizzly bear. It might be off of the type of bear, but I don't know.
Chris McMonigle (2:05)
Well, typically, black bears don't attack, and grizzly and black... The brown ones do? Yeah, the grizzly are the brown ones. Because I see bear, I would say, first of all, the bear goes through my garbage at...
Craig Carton (2:19)
That might be a raccoon.
Chris McMonigle (2:20)
No, it's a bear. Is it a bear, yeah?
Craig Carton (2:22)
You have it on camera?
Chris McMonigle (2:23)
Yeah, we have. Oh, sweet. I love that. Yeah. No, we've had... Pretty much a bear gets me one every spring and every fall.
Craig Carton (2:30)
Yeah, we have tons of bear also.
Are they black bears? I think they're black bears.
Chris McMonigle (2:33)
It's black bears. Yeah. They really don't...
Craig Carton (2:35)
They don't mess with people too much.
Chris McMonigle (2:36)
If you make noise, they run away. Yeah.
That's what they say to do. Don't run. Just make like a whole bunch of noise. And they'll run away.
Craig Carton (2:42)
So, yes, this is sad.
He was fishing with a group of people along the Bolshoi-Yenisei River in the Russian Republic of Tuva. The bear ate his face.
Chris McMonigle (2:53)
Oh, my God.
Craig Carton (2:54)
And head. And he succumbed to the injury.
Chris McMonigle (2:58)
If we say ate, he probably just attacked him and bit him in the head.
Craig Carton (3:01)
I'm just reading the story.
Chris McMonigle (3:02)
I don't think he like ate him.
Craig Carton (3:03)
I mean, I don't know if he did or didn't, but his companions managed to drive the animal away and they did their best to provide first aid. But at that point, that was no shot of that happening.
