That he's gonna be just fine, nothing to see here kind of thing.
And then of course we find out when they land in Jersey at the MRI, there's the thought that maybe it is more serious than we originally looked at.
That didn't get confirmed. Giants have a press conference yesterday, they don't play into any of that. And we want to wait and see, we don't know everything yet. And then the report comes out a couple hours ago that your worst fears have been realized, he does need surgery, multiple parts of the knee were affected by the hit, and his season is now over.
So your giant fan will talk about it. Bobby's in Babylon on the fan. Bobby, good afternoon, how are you?
SPEAKER_2 (1:09)
I'm doing great, Greg, and thanks for taking a call. Of course, sir. Before I get to my giant point, a great book for you since you're a World War II guy.
Craig Carton (1:17)
Yes.
SPEAKER_2 (1:18)
James Holland, Big Week.
There'll be 20 things in that book you'll want, yes. Okay. There's a picture in the book of Jimmy Stewart when he returns from a mission.
Craig Carton (1:31)
Okay.
SPEAKER_2 (1:32)
And that's the show. I'll speak a thousand words.
Craig Carton (1:34)
All right. Thank you for that.
SPEAKER_2 (1:35)
Now, my giant point. I've been a giant fan since 1961
So I've been through the ups and downs throughout the decades. But my point about the running game, take away the fact that a big part of our running game was dark. The RPOs, the quarterback runs. And now we have a quarterback that's a statue, basically. And then now when he's going to be, whenever we go into the shotgun, that also limits your running game. So I don't know how effective our running game would be, even if we only had seven men.
Craig Carton (2:10)
And Bobby, I appreciate you calling on the recommendation there. By default, it's not going to be as good.
Chris McMonigle (2:15)
Nothing is going to be as good.
Craig Carton (2:16)
It doesn't mean it's going to stink.
Chris McMonigle (2:18)
Correct.
Craig Carton (2:19)
But it can't be as good, because you're right. Number one, Jaxson Dart represents 30%, 40% of your rushing just by himself, obviously. Now, the rushing game should be better without him having to carry that kind of load, because you've got the blocking back in record, and you've got depth now running back.
You have three different guys that can carry the ball, and you saw three of those guys, whether we liked it or not, on Monday night. The question is, how much of a drop off? Because now, this becomes your reality. If the New York Giants cannot run the football, you have no offense.
Chris McMonigle (2:54)
Yeah.
No, I mean, listen, they're going to have to run the football. And I do think Jameis Winston can play a little bit. He'll throw the ball down the field. Hopefully Malik neighbors can get open down the field. Like, I think there can still be an offense. I'm not saying we're going to turn on TV Sunday and see just an absolute garbage product.
SPEAKER_3 (3:11)
But it's got to be a small party that's concerned that you are.
Craig Carton (3:13)
Because it's on the table that you might.
Chris McMonigle (3:15)
It's on the table. It's 100% on the table. I'm just saying it's not a guarantee.
Craig Carton (3:18)
Like, it could be 6-3.
Chris McMonigle (3:20)
I still believe in the coaching staff. I still think John Harbaugh brings an element that will uplift this team and they'll be ready for the game on Sunday. They're not going to wallow in their pity. I might, Giants fans might. I don't expect the football team to. I think they're going to get right back at it. And I think they could be a competitive football team against the other lousy football teams in the NFL.
But, like, yes, every aspect of the team is impacted by the quarterback. Hello, this is the NFL. Every single aspect of the team is impacted from how they scheme the season and the offense. Nagy was hired to coach a Jaxson Dart-led team. Like it changes everything. It doesn't mean they can't come up with a competent plan for Jameis Winston, but it changes everything about the team in the offense.
Craig Carton (4:08)
So you're not ready to go down the road of manning to manning yet? You're not there yet.
Chris McMonigle (4:13)
Okay, why do you keep asking me that? No.
Craig Carton (4:14)
It's the first time I've asked you today.
