Craig Carton (0:00)

I feel for you, kid, I do. I feel for all you giant fans.

Chris McMonigle (0:03)

I get no joy out of this. We're about to go into, and I know the Yankees and Giants, the fans don't know this, but just here in New York, right? Like, so much talk about how the Knicks season was gonna elevate the rest of New York Sports.

Craig Carton (0:15)

It did.

Chris McMonigle (0:15)

That they were gonna, it didn't. It didn't. Look what's happened since. Look what's happened since, Craig. The Mets had one of their biggest debacle seasons in history. Now to be fair, it was well on its way to being that before the Knicks won the championship. But the Mets had an ugly, disgusting, miserable season where the highlight was Pete Alonso hitting his 300th home run in a different uniform. The Yankees are about to head into a playoffs and not win a division and head into a wild card series against the Red Sox without Aaron Judge.

And now the giant season is Kaputzeville.

Craig Carton (0:48)

Thank God for the Knicks. That's exactly right. Thank God the New York Knicks are carrying us right now.

Chris McMonigle (0:53)

Because of that, we're allowed no other joy. That's it.

Craig Carton (0:57)

You're blaming the Knicks championship?

Chris McMonigle (0:58)

I'm not blaming the Knicks. I'm not blaming the Knicks. How about thanking the Knicks? But there was so much talk about how this was going to propel the Knicks. You know where Jaxson Dart was, Craig? You know where Jaxson Dart was?

SPEAKER_3 (1:07)

He was at the Knicks games in San Antonio.

Chris McMonigle (1:09)

I know what he was doing on the plane.

Craig Carton (1:10)

He was looking at tape.

Chris McMonigle (1:11)

He was looking at tape because it motivated him. Because imagine winning in New York. And Aaron Judge said the same thing. Oh, watching those guys made me want to win more in New York. And they were going to elevate everybody. Instead, they've cursed us.

The Knicks' 53 games, 53 year stretch of non-winning championships that came to an end in June has cursed the rest of New York Sports.

Craig Carton (1:32)

Do you think Harry Rose is upset that the Giants news trumped his retirement now?

Chris McMonigle (1:38)

Nothing can trump that story. It lives forever.

Craig Carton (1:41)

Here's Chase in New York, got the fan. Chase, good afternoon. How are you?

SPEAKER_3 (1:46)

Yeah, I just want to make a real statement right here. I just, you know, as a Giants fan, I really thought this Jaxson Dart error was going to be something.

And obviously when he got injured, I just, you know, I think he's going to trade for a quarterback. I don't know who, but I think we get the whole...

Craig Carton (2:03)

Well, that becomes the next, sadly, the next hot topic for the Giants.

Chris McMonigle (2:08)

We don't know that the entire Jaxson Dart era is over. That's us and our feelings in this moment. We don't know that for sure.

But yeah, right now, the more pressing question is not necessarily whether Jaxson Dart's going to be the quarterback of the future. Eventually, we'll get to that question. Right now, who's the quarterback of the next three weeks? Who's the quarterback of the next, you know, this season?

Craig Carton (2:26)

You know, it's quarterbacking Sunday's game. And you assume that James Winston's quarterback in the rest of the way.

Chris McMonigle (2:31)

I think you have to bring in someone who's not just James Winston's backup. And like Billy Zappi doesn't have an opportunity to play.

Craig Carton (2:38)

Like you want a proven veteran.

Chris McMonigle (2:39)

I have to bring in someone who at least I can feel like there's now a competition at quarterback.

Craig Carton (2:46)

So a guy that theoretically could push him.

Chris McMonigle (2:47)

Theoretically could push him. And if he plays poorly, like not just injured, if he doesn't play well, I'm gonna pull him for someone else. Like I don't think the Billy Zappis of the world or even the Will Levis, I guess Will Levis kind of could have been that. You want Tua? No, I don't want Tua.

JJ. McCarthy.

Craig Carton (3:05)

JJ. McCarthy can't play.

Chris McMonigle (3:07)

He won games last year with Minnesota. He won games last year. He won a national championship. He's not great though. I mean, he's not great. No, I'm not saying he's great.

Craig Carton (3:14)

He's a proven quarterback, to be fair.

Chris McMonigle (3:16)

Certainly not.

Craig Carton (3:17)

At least, I guess you could make the argument, well, Jim Harbaugh can tell John Harbaugh about McCarthy. I suppose you could make that argument. But John fans aren't going to get moist over side of JJ. McCarthy. No. That ain't going to make you happy.
