It's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a gorgeous Friday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join as always, 888-808-1019.
Got a great show for you today. Football Friday, got the Giants getting ready for the Saints, got the Jets getting ready for the Patriots. One of the worst passing games of the history of football last night authored by Bo Nix, but they're 4-2. And people want to know, are the Philadelphia Eagles trying to kill Jalen Hurts? That's actually a topic of conversation right now. I think the answer is yes, by the way. Good afternoon, Big Mac, how are you today?
Chris McMonigle (0:44)
I'm doing fantastic on this lovely rainy Friday.
Craig Carton (0:47)
And you got good news yesterday, I think you did at least.
Chris McMonigle (0:51)
I did?
Craig Carton (0:52)
Yes, if you're, just very quickly, because more on it later, if you happen to be a New York Yankee fan, the Dodgers getting swept should be music to your ears.
Chris McMonigle (1:03)
Yes.
Craig Carton (1:04)
You should enjoy their pain because screw them and you can't live in a world where they were in three consecutive World Series, right?
Chris McMonigle (1:13)
They are nowhere near the Dynasty Yankees.
Craig Carton (1:16)
That's exactly right.
Chris McMonigle (1:16)
When the Dynasty ended for the Yankees, it was in game seven of the World Series, not getting embarrassed in a four-game sweep in the LCS. Now...
Craig Carton (1:24)
I knew you were going to like it.
Chris McMonigle (1:25)
Of course I like it.
Is it harder to brag considering the Yankees came down in the Postseason this year? A little bit. It's a little bit harder to sit here and go nuts about it, but yes, the Los Angeles Dodgers are not the Dynasty that the New York Yankees were. They're not a Dynasty at all. Back-to-back champions and then get their ass kicked. Kind of a win for Yankee fans, I think. Hitting home runs, by the way, those Milwaukee Brewers.
Craig Carton (1:48)
There's a crazy story about that guy, Bauer, who I guess hit a bunch of home runs in the series. He and his wife, I guess he hasn't made a lot of money. I didn't really look it up.
Chris McMonigle (1:58)
He's been a journeyman player.
Craig Carton (2:00)
He was going to retire. His wife was going back to work as a school teacher. They had one child and all of a sudden, they find out they're pregnant with their second child, so the wife now puts her return to the workplace on hold, because obviously she's pregnant, she's going to deal with all that. Only because of that, this Bauer guy decides, let me see if there's a team want to give me another chance, because like you said, journeyman player. So he goes back to play, and again, not even for financial reasons, he went back because whatever school district she was going to go teach at, you have to wait, I guess, until you're eligible for health insurance.
So he tried to find a team want to pay him the minimum.
Chris McMonigle (2:46)
Just to get health insurance.
Craig Carton (2:47)
So that they have health insurance.
For the new baby that's coming. And now he turns out to be the most clutch guy in Brewers' history in the postseason and he's in a World Series.
Chris McMonigle (2:57)
With historic at bats, long at bats.
Craig Carton (3:01)
Great story.
Chris McMonigle (3:02)
Great story. Unfortunately, he didn't find that in 23 with the Yankees.
Craig Carton (3:07)
He was a Yankee?
Chris McMonigle (3:08)
He was a Yankee in 2023
Craig Carton (3:10)
Who even remembers that?
Chris McMonigle (3:11)
I mean, some of us do.
Craig Carton (3:12)
Some of us don't.
Chris McMonigle (3:13)
Some of us do.
Craig Carton (3:14)
All right, so that's Craig. We'll get to the baseball later more in depth, but it's a Football Friday, and I feel like we've gotten to a crescendo here. Frankly, with both teams, I think an argument could be made. I don't want to be repetitive because I think we said something similar last week, but I think it applies starting with the New York Giants because of what's happening in the division. And Jalen Hurts survived an assassination attempt by the Eagles medical staff. And Washington, of course, is Jaden DeAngelo's back, but he missed a couple of games.
And the Dallas Cowboys' defense is in tatters injury-wise. I truly think if you want to hold on to the possibility, as you should today, at 3-1-1, that the division title is now legitimately up for grabs. The Giants have as good a chance as the other three teams to win the division this year, maybe even a better chance, because they've got the game-and-a-half lead right now.
