Let's go get'em. What's going on, everybody? Welcome to the Go Get'em Podcast. Me, Chris McMonigle, as we are halfway through a four-game set, so we always do a little bit of a... Because four games is too many to go through, so we always do halfway through a four-game series. And the Yankees, those pesky Yankees, take the first two games of this series against the White Sox. They've won 11 of their last 15, really playing good baseball since that final game of the four-game set in Tampa where they had that big inning and came back and won that game. They swept Washington going into the break. A series they could have won against the Dodgers. They didn't, but could have, lost two out of three. But won two out of three against Pittsburgh, took two out of three against Philadelphia, and have now guaranteed themselves no worse than a split of a four-game set against the first-place White Sox. And that's part of it too, right? Because I'll be honest with you, we'll go through the games a little bit and maybe talk a couple of talking points about the trade deadline. We'll do more of that on Thursday as well after the series as we head down the stretch of this trade deadline.
But, you know, you got to give the Yankees credit.
You got to give them credit. We knew Bellinger was down. We found out right before the first game of this White Sox series that he was going to be down four to six weeks. We'll see. I'm hopeful it might be on the short side. He was already, you know, running on the field the night of the injury or the next day. So maybe it could be shorter than that, he goes down and you know all the other injuries they're dealing with. And yes, they got Max Fried back, but still waiting on Rodin, still waiting on Stanton, Judge, and we know it and still waiting on reinforcements at the trade deadline. And this team has found ways to win. Like as a Yankee fan, I'm respecting the grind this team has shown so far. I think it's, we talked about the stretch against teams over 500 that they were going to be playing here. They've been playing, say whatever you want about the White Sox. I don't know how good they are. You saw Schultz, who had a 6 ERA. Kay, who has pitched fairly well this year. And they have a lineup that scored a lot of runs. But how good are the White Sox? I don't know, but they're in first place. They're a playoff team today. They're a division. They're hosting a playoff game if the season ends today. Pittsburgh's over 500 How good are they? I don't know, but they're over 500 Philadelphia, the Yankees have kind of put them in a little bit of a slump.
Excuse me. Sorry. I don't know. All of a sudden, clearing my throat.
But these are good quality teams. And a lot of these series, whether it's Washington or Pittsburgh, not Pittsburgh, Washington, Philadelphia, and now Chicago, they've been on the road. And the Yankees are going to play a ton of home games coming up. And I know they've been better on the road than at home. But the entire month of August, they're pretty much at home. So, as we wait for the trade deadline, and as we wait for Judge to hopefully come back, still no news on that, Stanton to hopefully come back, and a month for Bellinger, this team has shown a real ability to win despite that. It's based on the pitching. Yankees are winning despite having a terrible offense. And the offense is still terrible. Last night, three runs. The first game of the series, I thought was a very positive offensive night. Obviously, they score nine. Last night, they win three to two. Offense is really relegated to one inning.
And a lot of sloppy play in the first game. Some really weird base running. Ben Rice going back to second on a ground ball.
Grisham last night should have scored on that. It's in the glove of the center fielder, though, to be fair. So it's hard to get a great jump. I mean, it's literally in his glove. It's not like he missed it. It's not like he jumped for it and it went off the wall. It's in his glove, but you'd like to be able to score. He ends up scoring anyway. But like, not great base running, not great defense, not great offense. Manager missed a challenge at third base, but so really haven't played well in these two games and yet coming away with two victories, coming away with two hard-fought victories, they made the plays they needed to make, and the offense did come through in the first game. And let's just start there before we get to everything else.
