[Georgia] The Deadly Delivery to Lita McClinton
Bless This Mess: A Southern True Crime Podcast
October 15, 2026
On a bitterly cold January morning in 1987, thirty-five-year-old Lita McClinton was inside her Buckhead townhouse in Atlanta, getting dressed for a critical eleven o'clock court hearing to challenge a prenuptial agreement with her estranged husband, multimillionaire beverage heir James Sullivan.

I'm Cara here with Stacey, hi Stew.
Stew (0:24)
Hey.
Cara (0:25)
All right, this week, we're going to Georgia, Stacey.
Stew (0:27)
Georgia, would you like me to sing some Willie Nelson, Georgia on my mind?
Cara (0:31)
Is that who sings that?
Stew (0:33)
He's one of the people that has.
Cara (0:34)
Okay, I don't, I don't know.
Anyways, yes, we're going to Georgia, and if you are familiar with the area, so around Atlanta, there's a subdivision called Buckhead. It's known for grand sprawling estates, towering oak trees, wrought iron gates, and high-end living. Now, back in the 1980s, it was the absolute epitome of Southern elegance, old money, and quiet affluence. So, in honor of the Buckhead area, that brings me to our weekly, we're gonna start talking about the weekly Porch on the Porch here, because I'm not the best at posting it in the week. But tonight, Stew has heartburn, so I am drinking.
Stew (1:20)
Yes, I took an antacid and walked out.
Cara (1:23)
Yes, so his weekly Porch on the Porch is an antacid, and the free water from the Amazon Delivery, that they throw in to keep things cold.
Stew (1:32)
So what I did is I paired it by taking the antacid from Walmart, the great value one, and then I chased it with some water from Amazon.
Cara (1:41)
Which flavor of antacid do you remember?
Stew (1:43)
I don't, I think it was red.
Cara (1:45)
Okay, so today in honor of our Georgia case, we're making the Buckhead Rose. I made a book we aren't making, I made it. So this is like, it's super, I'd say super refreshing, super crisp, so you fill up your mason jar. We're gonna have to go tell that cat to go.
That's old Jiggy Piggy over there, old Big Boy as we call him now. All right, we've taken care of him.
Stew (2:14)
Have we?
Cara (2:15)
Big Boy, I think.
Stew (2:17)
I was mistaken, that was not a great value, it was a Kirkland.
Cara (2:21)
Kirkland, oh, fancy, Costco.
Okay, so anyway, so you fill your mason jar with crushed ice all the way to the top, and then you throw in two ounces of bourbon. I used whiskey because that's all I had. And then you throw in-
Stew (2:39)
We had Jameson.
Cara (2:40)
We had Jameson.
And then you throw in one ounce of cranberry juice, and this gives it that pink because it's the Buckhead Rose Stew. Pink, rosy look. Squeeze in, well I didn't squeeze a lemon, I did one ounce of lemon juice, and then you just shake it up really good, and then top it off with ginger ale, or like sparkling water, and then you can throw a rosemary leaf on there, but I have issues with rosemary, so I did a, I slapped me some basil, slap, yes, slap a basil, rosemary, who would have thunk? So anyway, so yeah, it's really good, it's really good, Stew.
Stew (3:21)
Well, I'll have to try that.
Cara (3:22)
Yeah, maybe when you, so that's what we're, that's what I'm drinking tonight, and then that's what we'll be drinking on our sit and sipping and bullshitting on Fridays. Speaking of that, let me do a little housekeeping, do before we pull up a rocker. Here's a quick reminder of our weekly schedule.
Oh, let me give you a teaser of what we're going to be talking about first, though, so you don't leave before I read this.
Stew (3:46)
No. Well, it should be in the notes, huh?
Cara (3:50)
Well, I know, but not everybody reads. So on Friday morning of January 1987, the quiet neighborhood was shattered. Since the neighborhood of Buckhead was shattered by one of the most brazen, cold-blooded ambush murders this region has ever witnessed. It looked like a routine Friday delivery, a long white box with soft pink bow filled with fresh cut roses, but tucked right underneath those delicate petals was a loaded 9-millimeter handgun.
Stew (4:19)
You stop it.
Cara (4:20)
All right. Now back to housekeeping. Now I've got you titillated about what's happening.
So before we pull up a rocker, here's a quick reminder of our weekly schedule. So on Mondays, we step outside the South for our A Little Less Mess mini-sodes, and Thursdays are for our regular full-length cases right here on the main feed. Now, if you want to get those Thursday episodes early and ad-free, plus our Friday bonus show Sittin, Sippin and Bullshitin, come join our Patreon family. But I warn you, only come over if you're cool. Okay? Can't be like all uncool.
Stew (4:57)
Oh, I'll probably like the folks in both ends.
