**Craig Carton** (0:00)
All right, here's Hey Seuss in Hudson Valley on the fan. Hey Seuss, what's cooking, baby?
**Chris McMonigle** (0:05)
Hey Craig, C-Mac.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:06)
What's up?
**Chris McMonigle** (0:07)
Listen, I heard, I listened to that interview. You did exactly what you were supposed to do. I agree, he did a fine job. He's fine job. So C-
Craig, make sure you back him up.
**Craig Carton** (0:18)
I do, I told him I gotta back.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:19)
100%.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:20)
You got, 100%. Now, Craig, C-Mac, I gotta calm you down a little bit.
I know that Lombard, oh, he looks fantastic. But we did this, you know, this comparison to Jeter, not that long ago with Volpi.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:36)
You're right. Well, a little bit to Volpi, sure.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:38)
Absolutely. And it kind of backfired.
What backfired?
**Chris McMonigle** (0:42)
This is what I want to talk about for a second, because let me ask you a question. What backfired exactly? What about my fun tweet last night that, of course, is half tongue in cheek, just trying to have a little fun on the moment. How does that backfire exactly?
**Chris McMonigle** (0:55)
No, no, no, you deserve that.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:58)
What happens if George Lombard doesn't turn out? Is it because of my tweet? Did my fun last night suddenly disappear? Am I going to be kicking myself for enjoying last night because Lombard turns out not to be good? Is this sports, Craig?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:11)
Is this baseball?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:12)
Is baseball supposed to be fun?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:14)
Yes.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:15)
Are we allowed to enjoy it in the moment, even if we know that down the road it might not be this good?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:22)
What am I doing? I got him going. We didn't do anything.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:25)
How is anything going wrong?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:27)
I don't understand.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:29)
I don't understand why we can't enjoy ourselves.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:32)
Okay. Perfect moment. Perfect. Perfect. You just did it. It's sports. You just did it. It's not politics.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:39)
I'm not talking about how to fix the homeless problem in the country.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:42)
See, Mac, I'm trying to save you. I'm trying to save you from a heart attack. I'm trying to save you from a heart attack. Because if it goes down the wrong way, did you remember how much you've been going after Volpe? Yeah.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. You beat him up to the point where you almost, you sounded like you were going to have a heart attack. I don't want you to go down that road. Yeah, I'm with you. Good job, buddy.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:05)
I just, I had so much of this last night off of that tweet, which obviously is just having some fun. I know he's not Jeter over one game. Can we just, is it such a bad thing to enjoy it? Should nobody have cheered? Should we have not have got up? Hey, hey, don't be cheering that home run.
Let's not get all crazy or anything.
Like, what's the difference? I'm enjoying myself. I was at the ballpark for a big moment. The kid made his debut. He hits the home run, double play. I had some fun with it. We all should have some fun with it. Stop taking this so seriously. Oh, what kind of fan base is this? What kind of fan are you?
**Chris McMonigle** (2:40)
Well, hang on a second.
**Craig Carton** (2:42)
Last little comment I've got to push back on. I've watched you watch Yankee games.
You take it very seriously.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:50)
I do.
**Craig Carton** (2:50)
Like a random game in June when we're watching you watch it, you've got headphones on because there's a little tape delay here in the audio versus the video. And on a two-strike pitch in the third inning, all of a sudden, your eyes are popping out of your head like you're a cartoon character.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:08)
That's me having fun.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:09)
Oh, is that fun? You saw me in the middle of joy.
**Craig Carton** (3:13)
Okay.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:13)
That's what I do.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:14)
Well, that's fun then. You have fun. My fun.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:16)
I love getting up for these games. Yeah. But of course, do we take things too far? Do we over-hype people? Do we enjoy this? I guess. But that's okay. Is George Lombard going to be the greatest player ever? No, probably not. I know this. But in the moment, yeah, I'm going to compare him to Jeter. He had a similar kind of night as opposed to opening day in 96, so I mentioned it. Oh, my God.
