We got a great show for you this week. We'll finally get back to Games of Our Lives, which we got through about half way through probably about a month ago now. I think we are gonna pick up from the year 2000 Hopefully we can get through the rest of them all up to the current year.
But first, new games out now that we need to talk about that we've been playing. Gears of War E Day, Ryan McCaffrey got the review of the single player out, nine out of 10 And Sam, I know you've been playing a lot of this one too.
Sam Claiborn (1:47)
I have, yeah. If this could very well be a Games of Our Lives when we check back in in 2014
Nick Limon (1:52)
Oh, that good.
Sam Claiborn (1:54)
No, I don't think it's that good. I'm just saying. I'm just trying to keep the momentum going here. Yeah, no, I do like it though. It's, I have not liked a few of the recent Gears, and I really liked Gears 1 and 2 So it's like, that's where I'm at. Just to level set. But you know, this game is a prequel. So you're back with, you know, Bender's voice with Marcus Fenix, and it's got that going for it. And of course, it has a little bit of the phantom menace effect where you're going to have them be like, well, I'm holding a chainsaw. You're holding a gun. What are we going to do?
Nick Limon (2:31)
Dom is back in this too, right? Dom, Dominic Santiago. Yes.
Sam Claiborn (2:36)
And they, you know, they'll refer to a famous, what is it called? Blast Ball champion, stuff like that. So it's got the nods.
It's got that. And then, you know, it's all just done with a little bit of tongue in cheek corneas so that works out. So you start the game and you're like, this is just gears, gears, gears. Yeah. It's really violent. It's like really gore because it always just kind of, you know, meat shield gore, meat shields are not in this game by the way. But the things kind of just fall apart in a funny, like ragdoll chonk way, right? Just like blah all the time. But this game is about introducing those things, just like they did in the very first game. So it feels a little bit like you're going through the motions, but because of the chainsaws and the classes of the enemies being rolled out one at a time, and like, whoa, now they got a really big one. What's it saying? It's saying boom. It kind of feels like it's almost like a reboot, right? Because it's the characters discovering these things. But that's all to say though, that the familiarness is what fans want with this. You know, you can't stray too far. And so I get all that. So then it gets into the set. You're kind of playing corridor shooter stuff and blowing things in chunks. And there's a lot of dialogue and stuff and a lot of horror type elements. And that started to get me thinking like it's this game was always influenced by Resident Evil 4
