What's up, everyone? Welcome to the 740th episode. I don't know why that was. I had my notes closed like I always do.
740, I'm your host Steve, with me is Bobby.
Bobby (0:33)
Hello. There hasn't been a whole lot of time that's passed since the last episode we recorded.
Steve (0:38)
That's true. A little behind the curtain here, we recorded this in the same session as last week. So if we're wearing the same clothes, that's because it's only been like 20 minutes since the last episode that we've recorded.
Yeah.
Bobby (0:51)
Well, I'm always wearing the same clothes because I have like 15 of these black V-necks and that's kind of it.
Steve (0:59)
Austin, how many V-necks do you have?
Austin (1:01)
Zero. Not a single one.
Steve (1:05)
Perfect.
We have a show for you guys today. This was recorded early. So if there was any breaking Pokemon news and you're asking yourself, why didn't we cover this by the time this episode is over? It's because this was recorded at the same time that the last episode was recorded. There was enough news where it should feel like a full episode. So Pokopia won an award. So we're going to talk about that. Game Freak announced a new game. We're going to talk about that. And then because they announced a new game, we're going to talk about the Game Freak game that you forgot about that got shut down earlier this year. Those two go hand in hand. We spent our bonus episode last week on patreon.com/pkm and cast this. This is you should if you're not subscribed, you missed out on us talking about the 30th celebration. But we also talked that there was new TCG stuff still coming for the 30th. And so in this episode, we will give you that schedule. You should still subscribe to the Patreon and then go listen to that, so they're opening a brand new Pokemon Center not in Japan. So we're going to talk about that. And then Korea is having another event, which should have already started by the time this episode goes up. But their mega Fiesta is still going on. And then if you stick around for the bonus segment, we have some Pokemon Center that we will go through with some merch. It doesn't necessarily have to be Pokemon Center. There was also a new Adidas collab that we should be talking about too. So bonus this week on Patreon is merch, Pokemon Center and beyond. If you're on Apple Podcasts, you can also do the little free trial for the premium stuff or upgrade an Apple Podcast directly if you want bonus episodes and or you want to remove the ads from the episodes. That's our show for you guys today. Let's dive right in with the Pokopia.
This is off polygon.com Pokemon officially wins Game of the Year during its 30th anniversary. That's a very clickbaity headline, but technically accurate.
With so many big games on the horizon like Grand Theft Auto 6 and Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, it feels a bit early to be awarding 2026 games. However, Game of the Year has already been handed out.
The Japan Game Awards were held on September 15th and Pokémon took top honors. Pokémon Pokopia won Game of the Year. It also took home an award for excellence, and Pokémon as a franchise won the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award. Industrial Revolution Award.
Bobby (3:57)
Industry.
Steve (3:59)
Industry. Pokémon Pokopia winning Game of the Year, especially in Japan, should be much of a surprise. It is currently number four in Polygon's Game of the Year front runner rankings. Wait, what are the rest of the Polygon rankings? I need to know now.
Bobby (4:12)
I love that Polygon is like, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that it won in Japan because we have it in our front runners.
Steve (4:22)
Yeah, but what does Polymarket rate it as? They have Resident Evil Requiem, Big Walk, Crimson Desert, Pokopia, Mina, 7 First Light.
Bobby (4:38)
That was good, yeah.
Steve (4:39)
Upcoming Condenders, Grand Theft Auto, Legend of Zelda, Control, Blood of Dawnwalker, Marvel's Wolverine, well, that probably isn't going to, maybe wrong on that prediction.
Hey, we did that little big walk thing for Patreon, and people said they liked it, but we never got back to. But Austin played big walk without me and Bobby.
Austin (5:06)
I did play big walk without y'all, I'm so sorry.
Steve (5:09)
Did you finish it?
Austin (5:10)
No. I think I did maybe a three-hour segment playing through it.
Steve (5:16)
Oh, okay.
Bobby (5:16)
Okay.
Austin (5:17)
So I got through the first area.
