**Nick Kostos** (0:00)
Yes, sir!

**Chris McMonigle** (0:01)
Yes, sir! 202, straight up, it's The Carton Show with Big Mac. And I'm here all week without Craig. Yesterday we had Gallo, and today we step it up.
Today, we go to my guy, Nick Kostos. You know him from You Better, You Bet on Westwood One.
The dude is better than everybody else when it comes to talking football, talking gambling, talking everything. I can't get enough of him today. We're lucky enough to be joined until 7 o'clock on The Carton Show with Nick. Nick, thanks for coming in, man. I appreciate it.

**Nick Kostos** (0:33)
What's going on, my friend? Great open. And I'll say this about Gallo, the three. We were doing the show before the show.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:39)
I know.

**Nick Kostos** (0:40)
I think he should have a regular role in the station. I was impressed.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:43)
Being in the same room with you.

**Nick Kostos** (0:45)
The hair for him is a little problematic. A little problematic. A little truck stop serial killer, maybe. I told him it looked good. I didn't really mean it. I said it to his face. I'll say this on the air. I was impressed by him.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:56)
No, he's a very impressive guy. There's no doubt about it. Today he's dressed like a normal person, which is good. Typically, he's not. He was in some sort of, put him on TV yesterday. Decides to wear an orange and black soccer goalie shirt.

**SPEAKER_3** (1:08)
God knows why he would do that on television.

**Nick Kostos** (1:11)
To be fair, you're on TV right now. You're a television star, but you have a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt on right now. So it's not like you're dressed to the nines here. This is not like Met Gala CMAC here.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:22)
But I try to avoid looking like a lighthouse on television. That's the one thing.
But sitting in a room with you for a half hour, it's hard not to do the show behind the show. I mean, you are right out of the gate. As soon as we shook hands and we were doing the show. So I'm looking forward to today. We'll get to the football, obviously, as Nick is here. So we're going to use his expertise. But we got to start. And you are a Yankee fan, correct?

**Nick Kostos** (1:42)
Absolutely.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:43)
Big time Yankee fan.

**Nick Kostos** (1:44)
We only spent an hour before the show talking about that.

**SPEAKER_4** (1:46)
We're not the Yankees yet.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:47)
Yes. So also not a boon guy. So that should be fun, because that's typically who I argue with the most. But we got to start with the Yankees last night. And first, credit to the Mets. Credit to Pete Hoffman's Mets, as they took care of the Rays, took two out of three and absolutely pounded them in the game yesterday. You got Morabito with his first major league hit, doubled down the line, scores three, great catches in the outfield, getting shutting down the Rays with their bullpen game. In this series, the Rays played awful. It's actually laughable. But now, as the Yankees rallied last night for five, off of any tenth after Kam Schlitler again, Nick, 19 starts this season with one run or less.

**Nick Kostos** (2:27)
Cy Kam.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:27)
I mean, unbelievable. He's got to win the Cy Young. He's got to win the Cy Young. And last night was a virtuoso performance that hopefully seals the deal.

**Nick Kostos** (2:34)
And Dylan Cease has been great this season for Toronto. He's the closest competition. But as long as Kam and the expectation is, why would this happen? As long as he doesn't face plant down the stretch, he's going to win the Cy Young. He's been the best pitcher in the American League this season. Another great start from him. And I got to tell you, man, I would have been sick to my stomach. And if Austin Wells doesn't sneak that ball in the 10th and get that through, you know they're losing in the 10th. 100%.
And it's another waste of a good start for Kam Schlitler. So they're able to win. Kam's great. And Red Sox lose to the Mariners, Rays lose to the Mets. Great night last night for our Yankees.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:08)
Great night for the Yankees. And to put up all those singles too in the 10th inning, they've been the worst team in baseball this year, second worst in extra innings, period. They've been god-awful on the road since this experiment of a runner at second base. They have the second worst in baseball winning games on the road. So to come through to have that big hit from Wells was a talking point. Everybody, myself included, wanted him off the team at the trade deadline. Needed to replace him. Needed to do something. And he's been much better. He comes through with the biggest hit. And the difference in today, if they blow a Kam start winning where he pitches eight innings and gives up one run, they blow a game where the Mets score 10, beat the Rays and give them an opportunity to jump up. Today would have been a disaster for the New York Yankees. Instead, like you said, it's a good day. And now the chase is on. Now the chase is on to see. It felt kind of unlikely during the Red Sox series. It was a matter of, well, need to win this series so they get the home field advantage in the wild card series. Now, as they turn their attention to the Rays, the Red Sox lost their six games back roll.
