It's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a beautiful Thursday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join, as always, 1-888-808-1019.
Got a great show for you today. The home run that was, the home run that wasn't, the home run that was, and there's a new king of New York City. Move over, Jalen Brunson. But first, no Big Mac. We had Chris Christie. We had Bart Scott. We, I thought, had Damian Woodie coming in today, to be honest with you. Last text I got from Damian at about 1.15 today was, I'm good.
No Damian Woodie. But we do have Anthony Gallo on mic number 3
**Anthony Gallo** (0:49)
Oh, hi there, Craig.
**Craig Carton** (0:50)
And we've got Connor Hughes on mic number 4
**Connor Hughes** (0:54)
Oh, hi. How are you?
**Craig Carton** (0:55)
Not different, Connor, obviously. But we have great stuff today. I just want to acknowledge right out of the gate that one of the great things about sports, at least for me in my world, is sports at the innocent level.
Sports when you have no gambling involved, when if a team wins or loses, you wake up the next day with a smile anyway. And the purity of sport that we all fell in love with when we were children. And while a lot of people say they want to lead with the Pete Alonso, a fly ball to the left, is it fair? Is it a homerun? Should have been called foul. Did the Yankees steal a win? And then some of you want to talk about the fight today between the Giants and the Dolphins, excuse me, led by Abdul Carter and Jameis Winston. And some of you want to talk about the fact that Geno Smith with a bad ankle is starting in the second pre-season game for the Jets this weekend. And it's not where I want to start because there's a new king of New York City and his name is no longer Jalen Brunson.
Do you have any idea who the new king is?
**Anthony Gallo** (2:06)
I have no idea.
**Craig Carton** (2:07)
No idea?
**Anthony Gallo** (2:08)
And I already disagree.
**Craig Carton** (2:10)
You can't disagree.
**Anthony Gallo** (2:11)
I can because there's no other kings.
**Craig Carton** (2:13)
There is a lot of people thought, oh, Aaron Judge is the king of New York. Okay, for a minute he was. And then along comes Jalen Brunson and the New York Knickerbockers winning NBA Championship. And that became a silly conversation because obviously Jalen Brunson was knighted and crowned as the new king of New York City. Short lived.
**Anthony Gallo** (2:35)
Don't make me go down on shift and start. There's only a one king parade.
**Craig Carton** (2:41)
One king in New York right now. Jalen Brunson. And again, his name is not Jalen Brunson. Jalen Brunson might be the king again a week from now. He might be the king again in October when the season starts. But for the moment, today, Thursday, August 20th, the new king of New York City hails from Bayonne, New Jersey. And his name is Mason Rincon.
My guy last night against Massachusetts in a 1-1 game in the bottom of the last inning, grooved fastball right down the pike. Mason Rincon takes it yard, and the kids from Bayonne, New Jersey, win their first game in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Mason Rincon is the new king of New York City.
Here's how it sounded last night when he hit the game-winning walk-off home run.
**SPEAKER_1** (3:57)
Mason Rincon goes into the shrubs in center field, and that allows Bayonne, New Jersey, to win the game 2-1 on our first walk-off in Williamsport this year.
**Craig Carton** (4:10)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh The World Series, more people watched that game last night than watched the Yankees-Orioles game last night. 1.3 million people decided to turn on Little League World Series last night to watch the kids from Bayonne, New Jersey. And because they're from Bayonne, because they represent the tri-state area, everybody else in the world right now is trying to bring the kid down. There's now a big kerfuffle right now, because as Mason Ring Cone is rounding, or coming towards third base and rounding third base, he took both hands and he went like this. I don't know how I describe that. Like almost like, if your fingers are pointed out and you're doing like almost like, stop for a second, stop for a second. Cut. Yeah, like cut, cut, cut. And now the haters out there are suggesting that he was doing the throat slash sign and they want him suspended for the rest of the Little League World Series.
