It's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join, as always, 888-808-1019.
Got a great show for you today. Oh, how the tables have turned in 24 hours. Tough night last night, John fans, tough, tough night.
Chris McMonigle (1:12)
The shoe is on the other foot.
SPEAKER_5 (1:13)
Seven plays in, of course, Jackson Dart, doing nothing wrong, but trying to make it play.
Craig Carton (1:18)
John should have caught the ball too, by the way, for first down, but that's either here nor there. Obviously, the knee gets busted up, he goes down like a cheap suit, but unlike Caleb Williams, he walks his own ass off the field, because that's what men do.
Chris McMonigle (1:33)
That's damn right.
Craig Carton (1:34)
Doesn't make it any better. He's out for at least this week, and then you can try to play doctor at home. You got some guys saying two to four. You got some guys saying three to five. You got some guys saying four to six, but collectively, and God knows how the game would have gone had he not got hurt, obviously.
Chris McMonigle (1:49)
I do think it would have been a different game, but.
SPEAKER_5 (1:51)
I still think they lose because, and by the way, good afternoon, Big Mac, how are you today?
Chris McMonigle (1:55)
I'm doing okay.
Craig Carton (1:55)
Great, back to me now. Yes. Your offensive line got abused by the Rams defensive line. Check the box. That's for sure. Your defensive line got throttled by the Rams offensive line. Check the box, right? Your secondary got beat to shreds by a 15-year veteran.
In Devontae Adams, okay? So every little thing that could have gone wrong outside of Jackson Dart getting hurt, obviously did not go your way.
They signed James Winston to a two-year, like $13 million extension a month ago, thinking we've got the best backup quarterback in all of football. He stunk last night. And then the one thing that no one's gonna talk about, but me and you, your coaching staff before the game was a route and over, made some boneheaded, brain dead decisions. We'll get to that all.
Chris McMonigle (2:45)
Oh, everyone deserves a break in this game, including John Harbaugh.
Craig Carton (2:48)
A zero across the board for John Harbaugh as a coach. Unfortunately, Jackson Dart gets hurt, and the offensive and defensive lines are in your secondary. Plus, has anyone seen, I did buy some milk today, chocolate milk, as you know, because I don't like the white stuff, but I did buy some milk today.
SPEAKER_5 (3:06)
I did see O'Dell Beckham's face on a milk carton today. Three snaps last night.
Chris McMonigle (3:11)
That's the least of my dreams.
SPEAKER_4 (3:12)
Three snaps last night. That's so far down.
SPEAKER_1 (3:13)
Why is he on the team?
Chris McMonigle (3:14)
I get you, but that's so far down the list.
Craig Carton (3:17)
In any event, you're one and one, and now you've got a desperate Titan team coming here. You're barely favored in that game by three right now, and the season can very quickly come off the rails if you don't take care of business the next two weeks.
Chris McMonigle (3:29)
Yeah, and it's gonna be with the quarterback who looked awful last night. I mean, Jameis Winston wasn't just bad. He was unacceptably bad. He was lost out there, and I think that goes to the coaching staff too. Sure. That's part of it. There had, even though Jackson Dart did nothing wrong, a hundred, he didn't do any, this wasn't about him getting running, he didn't do anything dangerous, he didn't not step out of bounds, he didn't take on a tackle. He was in the pocket and got hit. He was in the pocket and got hit by two defensive ends and a pocket that completely collapsed from both tackles at the same play, and he goes down.
But Jameis Winston, as you said, one of the better, or at least perceived to be, one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL, and Jackson Dart, unfortunately now, and furthermore, is someone who consistently gets hurt. We've seen him not be able to stay healthy in both of his years. It's a main talking point about his career. How do you not have a game plan better suited for a backup quarterback when Jackson Dart is your backup, is your leading quarterback?
