It's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a gorgeous Thursday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join as always, 888-808-1019.
Got a great show for you today. As we still await the word, who's the starting quarterback tomorrow night for Jets giant Stoopi ball action? We'll get to that. We've got a problem with the New York Yankees on defense with one particular guy, but nobody seems to want to talk about it. Isn't that interesting? And a lot of stuff you've been treating, including a very special Wednesday Wheel on a Thursday later today. Good afternoon, Big Mac. How are you today, kid?
**Chris McMonigle** (0:43)
I'm doing well. I'm doing really well. You talking about Trent Grisham?
**Craig Carton** (0:45)
I'm not talking about Trent Grisham.
**SPEAKER_4** (0:47)
No, I'm not.
**Craig Carton** (0:47)
No, because that was a problem.
**Chris McMonigle** (0:48)
You know that was a 99% catch probability?
**SPEAKER_4** (0:50)
You know how I feel about that dump stat?
**Craig Carton** (0:53)
Deep flat ball to center. He may have it.
**SPEAKER_6** (0:55)
He doesn't have it.
**Craig Carton** (0:56)
Completely misjudged. Great to see the Yankee offense obviously waking up. It has been. We could, and I don't think it's just a bellinger thing. Obviously, having him back is huge. He's been really good. And he's swinged the bat really well since he came back. Yeah. But I think, to be fair, because you took a shot, I think a good shot, at Cashman yesterday for the lack of bullpen help, that you, and to be fair, you yelled about it before the deadline, you yelled about it after the deadline. So it wasn't a Monday morning quarterback situation.
But while not all of his decisions have panned out, the Garcia one has absolutely panned out.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:29)
He's been money. He's been money. And now with Stanton probably on the shelf for the rest of the season, it makes it a little more easy to understand what his role is going to be moving forward. It still could be a little tricky, but yeah, no, he's been unbelievably good. And it was a trade kind of out of nowhere. It was a name nobody was talking about. He was having an incredible season in Washington.
He was the best bat moved. And if you look at some of the guys who've been moved since the trade deadline, he's had an impact on the Yankees as much as anyone who got traded. So there is no doubt that was a huge successful move. Him in the middle of that order, left-handed batty can run a little bit as he beats out a ground ball in this game to set up bases loaded. Obviously the home runs, he's got seven hits over the last two games. As the offense has exploded, he's a threat right in the middle of the order. So yeah, no doubt, huge, huge impact. I still look at this team. Last night, Paul Blackburn just gets out of it. The skin of his teeth.
**SPEAKER_4** (2:21)
They need another one.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:22)
He did get out of it, pitched really well. And he's been great. And Hedrick's been great. And Bednar's been great. And you didn't have to use him last night.
**Craig Carton** (2:28)
Let me get to the elephant in the room if I may.
**SPEAKER_4** (2:31)
If I may?
**Craig Carton** (2:31)
There's an elephant in the room.
**SPEAKER_4** (2:32)
Is there an elephant in the room?
**Craig Carton** (2:33)
There's an elephant in the room. We're talking Yankee baseball. We got ourselves an elephant. What sound does an elephant make? You do the...
**Connor** (2:39)
No, no, that's not it.
**Craig Carton** (2:41)
Hey, Connor, can you do an elephant sound? I don't know if I can.
Petey, can you do an elephant sound?
**Connor** (2:47)
Like... What does it get?
**SPEAKER_8** (2:49)
No, the elephant sound goes...
**Craig Carton** (2:52)
Yeah, yeah. Hold on, hold on. That's competing elephant sounds. Connor, you got an elephant sound in you?
Let's see who does the best elephant sound here. Go ahead, Connor.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:01)
No, not bad.
**Gallo** (3:03)
Awful.
**SPEAKER_8** (3:03)
It's like motorboating.
**Craig Carton** (3:04)
Not just bad.
**Gallo** (3:05)
Oh, no.
**Craig Carton** (3:06)
That's your elephant sound? It didn't get better.
It didn't get better. Pete, let me hear your elephant sound. That's not bad. By the way, it's almost an elephant slash letting air out of a balloon.
**Pete** (3:22)
Yeah, a little bit like that, yeah.
**Ben** (3:23)
Let me hear yours.
**Craig Carton** (3:27)
So I think it's between you two. Connor, no disrespect. Yeah, brrrr, your way home.
Yeah, Connor's out. Are you looking to do an elephant sound there, Biggs?
