It's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a gorgeous Wednesday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join, as always, 888-808-1019.

Well, the New York Giants are discussed for their fan base continues. The season effectively came to an end two hours ago.

If you are just getting to the news or getting to the radio for the first time, confirmed not by the Giants, but by multiple NFL insiders that seem to have a direct access to the orthopedic surgeon for the New York Giants and Jackson Dart. The Jackson Dart has a sprained MCL, PCL and a meniscus problem as well. And he will undergo surgery, hasn't yet, but he will undergo surgery that effectively ends his season, puts out the future of the quarterback position in doubt for the Giants. I think we can all agree ends the New York Giants 2026 football season as well, sadly. Good afternoon, Big Mac, how are you today, kid?

Chris McMonigle (1:04)

I'm doing awful.

Chris McMonigle (1:05)

Awful?

Chris McMonigle (1:06)

Yeah.

Craig Carton (1:06)

Well, we kind of knew this yesterday, didn't we?

Chris McMonigle (1:08)

It's a miserable day though, still to confirm it.

Chris McMonigle (1:11)

Yeah, now the Giants haven't confirmed it.

Craig Carton (1:13)

Everybody else has confirmed it.

Chris McMonigle (1:14)

Well, again, you're hung up on this. Like this is how it goes in the world of the NFL.

Craig Carton (1:17)

Giants haven't told their fan base what's going on, but Ian Rappaport did.

Chris McMonigle (1:20)

Yeah, that's how it works. Oh, is that how it works?

Chris McMonigle (1:22)

That's how it works. Yes, these things break. Well, put that to the side, then.

Craig Carton (1:25)

Are you done? You've given up? It's a wrap?

Chris McMonigle (1:27)

Well, that's the thing. You just said, effectively, a lot of people have been, I've been getting a lot of pushback that I'm some sort of bad fan because I'm taking this hard and because I do think this season is effectively over. I'm not going to apologize for it. Like, this is a devastating blow. This is an absolute devastating blow to the Giants season. And it doesn't matter. And here's what I'll say. Sure, as a Giants fan, do I think that there's a chance that they win a couple of games this year?

SPEAKER_5 (1:51)

Yeah.

Chris McMonigle (1:51)

Do I think Jameis Winston can show what he... And I talked about this yesterday, what he's capable of showing last year. Do I think he's still somewhere near the guy who threw for 5,000 yards in the NFL? Was the first overall pick Heisman Trophy winner?

SPEAKER_5 (2:03)

Yeah.

Chris McMonigle (2:03)

I still think he's one of the better backup quarterbacks. He didn't show it the other night in LA, but I think he could be a serviceable quarterback. But the point is, the Giants season was based on winning football games, yes, but also the development of this quarterback, finding out he's your franchise quarterback, moving ahead with this coach in this quarterback, and that is officially done. This year is done, and we're at the point now where they're expecting a full recovery and the ACL is intact, and it's more of an MCL and PCL and meniscus problem and they expect them back for a full recovery next season. But who knows what that knee is now, who knows if he's the future of the franchise, and this season that showed such promise against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night, is now effectively, okay, maybe they win some games and it's about watching neighbors and see if he can stay healthy and develop. And it's about Carter and it's about Reese and it's about maybe coming together and seeing what this coach is. But the promise that this season could be anything is over.

And it sucks and it's miserable and there's no other way to put it. And I can't sit here and put a brave face on it and say, well, Jameis Winston might be able to win some games. Who cares? Honestly, I do not care if Jameis Winston wins six or seven games.

Chris McMonigle (3:15)

Makes it worse, actually.

Chris McMonigle (3:17)

Exactly. I don't even care.

Craig Carton (3:18)

You're not in Tag-a-thon mode yet, but you're going to get there pretty quickly. Because the reality is that they can beat the Titans. They can beat the Cardinals. So don't be shocked if you wake up in a couple of weeks and the New York Giants happen to be three and one. But don't buy into that. Don't buy into the fact, oh, we're three and one. Look how great everybody is. We're going to make a playoff run. The idea of getting to the playoffs died today. It's dead. Now, can you win five or six games? Why not? Sure, you can.
