Yo, what's cracking everybody? James Koh, Matt Harmon here with you. You're listening to Reception Perception The Show. Matt Harmon, how are we doing after a busy slate in week number four?
Matt Harmon (0:27)
Man, James, I'm doing very well. We had some massive wide receiver performances in week four. Some that you could have seen coming, some that maybe you couldn't have. So a lot to talk about. Week four was pretty awesome.
James Koh (0:40)
I tell you what, week four was really good for the 2023, the year of 2023, the 2024 draft class, all of a sudden had a lot of touchdowns. We were talking about the, we were writing the obituary of the 2024 draft class, being one of the biggest boss in NFL history. And godly, a lot of those dudes ended up catching touchdowns and it was funny. They all caught them within like a couple of minutes of each other. You know what I mean? It was funny.
Matt Harmon (1:06)
Yeah. Neighbors obviously got going after not looking so great for a few weeks. Brian Thomas Jr. Parker Washington took a couple of defenders with him on a play. BTJ scored a touchdown. Even Marv caught a touchdown on a fade route. By the way, that was his one catch of the day.
That's it. Did you see him doing the finger celebration afterwards?
James Koh (1:30)
Yeah.
Matt Harmon (1:31)
Was he shushing or was he just saying like, that's my one for the day and that's it? I don't know.
James Koh (1:37)
By the way, he was shushing himself.
Matt Harmon (1:39)
Yeah. That's it. Calm down. Can't get too much more production. That's it. Yeah. He's a trade candidate. Apparently, Adam Schefter talked about that. He could potentially be on the move.
There's definitely some wide receivers who could be moved here on the deadline, which is a month plus away from now, so we got some time to get there.
James Koh (2:02)
Yeah, for sure. We talk about some absolutely ridiculous games. CeeDee Lamb, Tetairoa McMillan had crazy, crazy games. T. Higgins with Jamar Chase out had a large game. Karnel Tate finally got going, and of course, Zay Flowers as well. Again, we'll talk about a lot of these dudes, talk about some trade candidates here.
Wide receiver pickups, I should say, for Kansas City as they will most likely be in the market for a wide receiver. A lot of smoke in regards to Tyreek Hill making that reunion with the Chiefs. But let's start there in Baltimore, man. Zay Flowers is just going ham sandwich right now. He's had 100 plus scrimmage yards in every single game that he has played. He is on pace for 1,500 yards receiving. He's catching everything too, man. Nearly an 82 percent catch rate right now for Zay Flowers, which by the way, that's a little bit of a change for him.
I'm not saying he can't catch, I'm just saying the efficiency metrics haven't always necessarily been there. I guess the big question for me, Matt, is his utilization changed at all in terms of, okay, are they running him on different routes? Are they lining up in different formations? Basically, how is Zay Flowers doing what he's doing right now?
Matt Harmon (3:21)
Yeah, I wanted to do a bit of a deep dive here on Flowers because his start to the season has been absolutely insane. Zay Flowers has run 56 routes this season, James.
152 players have run more routes than him, including over 90 wide receivers. He is seventh in the NFL in receiving yards with 352
James Koh (3:44)
And he missed a game.
Matt Harmon (3:46)
He missed a game. His quarterback, also Lamar Jackson, missed a half of this past game against the Tennessee Titans. A total half.
Now, if we are being intellectually honest here, we should of course point out the defense that he has gone against, one half against the Indianapolis Colts, which they are kind of a mess on defense. They have some issues. Even Aithan Kaliak Manas, a quarterback, I definitely knew who that was for the Washington Commanders. Seventh round rookie comes in and is just bombing it over the Colts defense in the London game here in week four. Then he missed a game. He played the Cowboys. They have a bit of a shaky past defense to put it nicely. And then the Tennessee Titans really don't do anything well at this point. Those are the three defenses that Zay Flowers has faced here with this incredible start to the season. But still, I think the outrageous per play, per route efficiency is worth diving into for Zay Flowers. Just again, to put it into context, he has gotten a first down on 27.8 percent of his routes. He is averaging 6.3 yards per route run.
