Excellent separation against ManCover. This is Reception, Reception, The Show.

Yo, what's cracking everybody? James Koh, Matt Harmon here with you. You're listening to Reception Perception, The Show. Week 6 is practically in the books here as we record on a Monday morning. Matt Harmon, how are you doing, pal?

Matt Harmon (0:28)

I'm good, man. Week 6 was some sloppy football, some slop fest games, but overall, I thought really interesting in a lot of wide receiver storylines. I mean, there's big NFL news storylines and there's some big wide receiver storylines to hit, which, hey, if that's what you're looking for, you came to the right place.

James Koh (0:48)

Well, I'll tell you what, you and I are both doing better than Chris Ballard because the Chris Ballard era is now over in Indianapolis.

I don't know, what are your takeaways here? You and I were talking about, mostly me because I like theorizing random stuff, but I was like, man, Indianapolis really needs to make a move here. Well, it doesn't look like they're going to be making any moves anytime soon, as Chris Ballard is now fired from Indianapolis.

Matt Harmon (1:11)

Yeah, he was on the job for, I think, 10 years, did not win a division title in that span, which I was honestly-

James Koh (1:18)

Is that right?

Matt Harmon (1:19)

Yeah. I was surprised to read that this morning. I guess I knew that in the back of my head, but obviously things started off chaotic when Andrew Luck retired, just it was a weird run for Chris Ballard, a lot of quarterback movement. But I mean, man, I know he's really well-liked and really well-thought of in the media, and he has a lot of defenders out there, and I'm sure he's a great guy, nothing personal. But man, he made a lot of missteps with this team, particularly in the last 365 days.

It's one of those, what did you think was going to happen? You know, with especially the sauce gardener trade, I guess you could kind of say, hey, we can make a big swing, we should make a big swing, like we might potentially, in an AFC where Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were down last year, do we have a shot to really make a one-year push? The problem is you didn't make a one-year push because you trade two freaking first-round picks, including the first-round pick this year, which is going to be pretty high, going to the New York Jets, like you make this big sauce gardener trade. That just felt desperate at the time, and then I get like what else were they going to do? Like who else were they going to get? But just arriving on the we are going to hitch our wagon this hard to Daniel Jones thing, it just didn't make a lot of sense. I don't really think, I mean, did anybody believe that was going to work out coming off an Achilles injury? And it has not worked out so far this year. So I get it six games into the season. You might as well make the move now if you're Carly Ursay-Gordon and the Colts ownership, because you actually should start thinking about selling assets off at the deadline to try to think about your future, not trying to extend any little window you have here right now.

James Koh (3:08)

I mean, there's a lot of things going on. Look, I get that Michael Pittman is on IR right now. But again, just moving on from Michael Pittman and then giving, you know, Alec Pierce, a big extension. They traded a first round pick for Carson Wentz. They decided to spend free agent money to go after 36-year-old Matt Ryan, who was clearly on the decline. They say this a lot about GMs, is that your job security is reliant on your quarterback. And if that is the case, Chris Ballard did a horrible job with it. You know, you're talking about Matt Ryan, you're talking about Carson Wentz, you're talking about spending a fourth overall pick on Anthony Richardson. And you give, you know, Daniel Jones an extension on the after Nick Killey's tear, where, I mean, golly, if he hits open mark. And by the way, this is not revisionist history either. Like there was nobody who was harder on the Daniel Jones signing than your boy over here. Like I'm like, that was just such a terrible move.

And it's obviously playing out to be that way. So no, man, like he just could not get quarterback even anywhere close to being right. And the closest he ever got was again, those first eight games with Daniel Jones, that was it.
