Yo, what's cracking, everybody? James Koh, Matt Harmon here with you. You're listening to Reception Perception, The Show. All right, beautiful day today. Matt Harmon, we got a beautiful show lined up in front of us here today, man. We're going all over training camp, all throughout the NFL. We've got some of the interesting news and notes that have peaked our interest. And Matt, I want to start in Washington, man. Let's get right into it.
It is so unfortunate when we record and major wide receiver news breaks 30 minutes or 45 minutes after we are done taping. That is very unfortunate. But that's what happened in Washington when Stefon Diggs signed over there.

Yes, it was pretty much right after we started recording or stopped recording, which is great.
But that's okay because honestly, I'm glad we saved this full breakdown for today's show because we have a lot more information to go off of. Not only do we have now the full profiles for both Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs on the site as of Monday morning, alongside Jalen Coker as well. So very exciting profile on that one.
But yes, we have those two profiles on the site and we also unfortunately have bad news out of Washington as well, which is that superstar left tackle, Laramie Tunsil, he's tore his triceps. He's going to miss like multiple months. He's going to miss time deep into the season. I would think honestly, there's a chance he doesn't play at all this season. Probably comes back later in the year, but it's a brutal, brutal injury, of course. And he has a massive loss. He was great for them last season. It's one of those injuries, James, and I think certainly maybe people don't react to enough, honestly. That's how big of a loss this is. Think about last year with the Chargers offense, where they just were never able to get off the map because they lost Rashaun Slater, especially once they lost Joe Ault. Larry McTuzzle is better than both those guys, okay? This is one of the five, three best offensive tackles in the NFL period. So it's a brutal loss for them. So we have a lot more information now to go off of with the Stefon Diggs signing in Washington situation.

Yeah, when you take a look at what Stefon Diggs did last year from a reception perception standpoint, there was quite a number of design touches. And let me just get some of his raw numbers out of the way, right? 85 receptions, a thousand yards, four touchdowns in New England playing just 55% of the snaps last year for the Patriots. He was incredibly productive. When he was on the field, they leaned on him big time.

Yeah, he was not a full time player, but was super productive for the New England Patriots. And he's kind of been a productive player the last two years. This is anytime we talk about an aging player, you know, the player decline discussion always has to come up. But certainly from a raw stats perspective, 85 catches, 1,013 yards in the regular season, 15th in yards and ninth among catches, despite being that full-time, not full-time player. Super effective for them. That was a signing that got panned by folks, you know, because of the contract, it only lasted one year because of some maybe non-football.

It is Stefon Diggs. Yeah, it was a successful one-year partnership. And I thought what was remarkable about Diggs' Reception Perception charting, because to be like, pull us back in the time machine. If you're not familiar, you're new in Reception Perception. I mean, this is one of the inner circle, you know, RP Hall of Famers is Stefon Diggs. He was charting out against man coverage like an elite performer before his move to Buffalo. I mean, back in our days at NFL Network, James, I was talking about, which is obviously 100 years ago now at this point.
I was talking about how Stefon Diggs was, you know, number one in certain seasons in success rate versus man coverage. I think it was the 2017 season he was number one in success rate versus man coverage. So he was that guy then. And then obviously once he gets to Buffalo, he launches to a whole new level. His 2020 success rate versus man coverage is still number one in the entire Reception Perception database, multiple seasons over the 93rd percentile in success rate versus zone, and 96th percentile against press. I mean, again, he has a case to be one of the best route runners, if not the best route runner period of the Reception Perception era. So I say that to say, I know there's going to be obviously he's not that player anymore. I don't think anybody would argue that he's that player anymore. I don't even know if Stefon Diggs would argue that he is that player anymore. However, what I thought was remarkable was while the decline for him did begin in the 2023 season, it started to go down there that year, and then last 2024 with the Texans took another step down specifically against man press coverage and down the football field. The 2024 charting for Diggs and the 2025 charting for Diggs is remarkably similar. I mean, almost identical in a variety of metrics, not just in how the route tree skews, which we'll talk about, but also just the overall success rates. I mean, he's been right around 70% success rate versus Manum Press, and 79.2% success rate versus zone this past year. It's just a tick up actually from where he was with the Houston Texans at about 78.8%.
