888-808-1019, phone number to join us. Carton Show with Big Mac, having a fun Thursday afternoon here. Obviously, the big football news, Jalen Hurts out indefinitely with a blood clot in his calf.
So, he will not play against the Carolina Panthers, and then I suppose it's week to week after that. As we learn more, we'll tell you, but the obviously big question to you Giant fans was, as we can tell you that the Cleveland Guardians have beaten Tampa in game three and taken two on series lead. More on that coming up in a second.
I'll get Big Mac in on that in just one second. But the reality now is, what kind of guy are you? Are you a guy that says, I don't give a rat's ass about Jalen Hurts, this is good for the Giants, I'm gonna celebrate it. We did have a caller earlier start off by singing Zippity Doo Dot today. Very happy about it. Or are you gonna be a good guy saying, you know what, I hope Jalen Hurts is okay, I don't wish this on him, on anyone, and I hope he gets back on the field as soon as possible.
Chris McMonigle (0:57)
Haven't had a good guy yet.
Craig Carton (0:58)
Not a single one.
Chris McMonigle (0:59)
Not a good guy yet. Real quick.
Everybody is basking in the glow of what the Giants could be.
Craig Carton (1:05)
Loving the fact that Jalen Hurts is out.
Chris McMonigle (1:07)
Yep.
Craig Carton (1:07)
Well, look, you dealt with it, your quarterback's out for the year.
Chris McMonigle (1:09)
Eagles are falling apart. It feels like they are falling apart.
Craig Carton (1:12)
We'll get back to your calls in that one second. I want to get you in quickly here as the Guardians now take a 2-1 series lead. Yep. And if I'm not mistaken, was that former New York Met, Long Island zone Stephen Matz pitching?
Chris McMonigle (1:26)
He might have been pitching in the game.
Craig Carton (1:28)
He did pitch today.
Chris McMonigle (1:29)
He's on the roster. He's still in Major League Baseball.
Craig Carton (1:31)
In any event, just a quick take. Got Cleveland taking the lead.
Chris McMonigle (1:34)
I mean, it's frustrating.
Craig Carton (1:37)
Yeah.
Chris McMonigle (1:37)
I mean, what do you want me to say?
They played well. They played well here and they've, listen, not a lot of runs scoring. They pitched great. Another performance from Williams, who's like he's one of the better starters in the league. He had another good performance. They have shut down the Rays. And let's be honest, the Rays really didn't hit in the Yankee series either.
Craig Carton (1:53)
To be fair.
Chris McMonigle (1:53)
Like they have not, they have not hit in this postseason. They won the game the other night in game two. A ball goes through Ramirez's legs, like the Yankees, like Ryan McMahon. A ball went right through his legs. No, they end up scoring three in that inning. It would have been out of the inning with no runs. Instead, it's a run scores on that play. And then it leads to another two out single that scores two runs from the Rays. So like all three of their runs scored in game two, the one that they won, wouldn't have happened if not for an easy ground ball going through Ramirez's legs at third. Today, they score one run, they get beat on a two run homerun from a guy who doesn't typically hit homeruns. Like, it's just Cleveland has found a way to limit them offensively and do just enough.
They have completely shut down the Rays. The Rays have not hit this entire postseason.
Craig Carton (2:38)
It's frustrating as a Yankee fan because it only took a little bit of offense. Just a little bit. Just a little bit.
Chris McMonigle (2:45)
And you're watching Bauers last night who was with the 23 Yankees, right? Watching him in big home runs. And for all their faults.
Craig Carton (2:52)
From Milwaukee, yeah?
Chris McMonigle (2:53)
Yeah. And this is what I would say since we got to make it a Yankee thing instead of just talking about them because who cares about Cleveland? But, excuse me, if we're going to talk about the Yankees, what's frustrating is, and again, this is not excuse making. The Yankees need to be better. The Yankees have a ton of holes. The Yankees have clearly a leadership issue from both the manager and inside the player group and the captain. Like, there's a bunch of stuff that could explain why they don't win in the postseason. But bottom line is, why can't Bellinger beat Bauers?
