Jimmy, welcome to Twenty Something!
**Jimmy Rex** (0:01)
Thanks for having me.
**Olivia Burnett** (0:02)
So excited to have you here. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to come down to the studio today.
**Jimmy Rex** (0:07)
Yeah, no, it's a pleasure. Again, I can appreciate people that are hustling and doing the things, so I try to support.
**Olivia Burnett** (0:12)
Thank you. You're the best.
So for the person who's spending an hour or so of their time with us today, what about their life and their mindset is going to change based on our conversation?
**Jimmy Rex** (0:22)
You know, I think I can teach you how to trust yourself a little bit more and actually do the thing. I think too many people your age are just... They get caught up too much in the minutia and the details of things. And I think I have a really good way to cut through all that. And I can talk about that on the episode.
**Olivia Burnett** (0:37)
Which is really cool because we've talked a lot about on this episode, like our previous episodes of like vision boarding and all that kind of stuff. But the application of it is like I think where it really counts. So I'm stoked to hear more about it. Let's get into it.
Wait, are we recording?
Hey, it's Liv, and welcome back to Twenty Something. Before we jump in, if you've been enjoying the show, the best way to support us is by leaving a quick review. It really helps us reach more people who are trying to build intentional lives, and it really does mean more than you know. Now, let's get into today's episode. We hear a lot about building a successful life, about what works and what doesn't. So how do you cut through the noise? How do you cut through all the voices? How do you actually take action that's gonna help? Because what if it's about the people you're surrounding yourself with, the relationships you build, and the experiences that you're creating along the way?
Today's guest is Jimmy Rex, entrepreneur, podcaster, community builder, and someone who spent years of his life helping people connect in a world that often feels more disconnected than ever. One of the most realist conversations I've ever had, we talk about what it actually means to make a fulfilling life, how to take action, what people get wrong about dating and relationships, and the lessons that Jimmy has learned from building so many businesses, his podcast, and his own communities. So whether you're feeling stuck, maybe you're searching for deeper relationships, or you're just trying to create a life that you're actually excited to wake up to, then this one is for you. So without any further ado, here's my conversation with Jimmy Rex. Well, Jimmy, I know this is a story you tell often, but when I was doing my little deep dive social media stock on you, you told the story of how you came up with the name for We Are the They. And I was just wondering if you would start off, like I think it's a really good way to help our listeners just get an insight into who you are. So would you mind sharing that story for probably the millionth time?
**Jimmy Rex** (2:35)
Yeah, no, it's a short story I love to share. That's the name of my coaching program. And where it comes from is, before it was the name of my program, it was my life motto. And what happened is I used to work with a couple of organizations that were going undercover and helping rescue kids from sex trafficking and things like that. And one of the ops happened to be our most dangerous op. It was pretty sketch, to be honest. Yeah, it was pretty cool, too, though, because we took down some really bad dudes. And on the way back, my girlfriend at that time picked me up at the airport in my truck, and we're driving home, and I'm telling her about it. And I'm telling her about this rescue and these bad dudes we took down.
And she pulls over and she just looks at me and she's like, hey, I don't want you to do this anymore. And I was like, what are you talking about? Did you not just hear what I said? We just rescued these kids. And she says, I know, but it's a bad environment.
It's a scary thing. And I was like, well, this is gonna be part of my life's mission now. And she says, well, why can't they just go do it? And without thinking, I just said, I said, well, there is no they. We are the they. And when I said that, I was like, oh man, it shot shivers down my spine. And I knew that was gonna be a special kind of motto. And it's true, we see problems in the world and we always say somebody needs to do something about this or somebody needs to fix this. And really, there is nobody doing it. If you want to see a change in the world, you gotta be the person to do it. And so that's kind of where that principle, that motto came from. And so that's why I named my company that as well.
