Jarred Taylor (0:09)
Yeah, welcome to Drinkin Bros fake news, everybody. Bringing you the realest, fakest news of the week.
Ross Patterson (0:17)
Coming at you early here this morning. You guys like the morning shows.
So yeah, we're up and at them here, even though daddy was up a little late last night, watching the Braves lose. They are out of the playoffs. D'Anthony had more than a few. Hard A of Seltzer's last night, watching that debacle. And then my wife is a diehard Yankees fan, so we switched over to the Yankees game after that. They lost, and they're both out of the playoffs, back to back within, I don't know, three hours of each other. You guys were shooting Crime Corner. She got home, we watched the end of that after the Braves had been eliminated. She's like, what are you so pissed off for? I was like, braves are out, Dodgers, 1.4 billion. And then the Yankees were playing. She's like, well, maybe the Yankees were redeem us.
SPEAKER_3 (1:08)
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Ross Patterson (1:10)
It is all over for us last night. So Dan, that means Tampa Bay, Chicago White Sox, or the Cleveland Guardians. I'm using air quotes on Guardians there. Is it gonna be in the championship?
SPEAKER_3 (1:25)
That was none of those, run my bingo card.
Dan Hollaway (1:27)
Tampa Bay is going to be in.
Ross Patterson (1:29)
You think so?
Dan Hollaway (1:30)
Yeah.
Ross Patterson (1:30)
Okay. Okay.
Dan Hollaway (1:32)
Yeah, they have. Rasmussen is good.
McClanahan may be back for the CS, Freddie Peralta will eat up some meetings. Nick Martinez will eat up some meetings. I just, the White Sox don't have, I don't think they, I don't, the American League was very weak this year, just in general, two central teams getting in like that. And the AL West was a joke all season, which is not typically the case. Usually the Rangers and Astros are both good. They were bad this year.
Ross Patterson (2:17)
Seattle was great last year.
They were, what, one out away from potentially winning it all. And I know you're saying to yourself, hey guys, this is fake news, not a sports show.
Sort of. I want to feed this into a conspiracy here, just real quick at the top. If it was Rays versus Dodgers and the Rays win, there is a looming strike that is supposed to happen right after the season's over a year, and they're expecting it to be long. This would certainly give the ammo that it needs if the cheapest team in baseball won the World Series over the richest team in baseball, which is $1.4 billion, and people were already speculating about that online last night of, hey dude, the fix might be in here, and that way you can't go into these negotiations in the off season and bitch that we should have a salary cap when the poorest team just beat the richest team. Now obviously, we don't know what's going to happen, but.
Dan Hollaway (3:16)
We do.
Ross Patterson (3:17)
What do you think?
Dan Hollaway (3:18)
The Dodgers are going to win.
Ross Patterson (3:19)
That's what I think.
Dan Hollaway (3:20)
There's no chance.
Ross Patterson (3:21)
But if that happens, then there's going to be a strike for like two years. So.
Dan Hollaway (3:24)
Maybe.
Ross Patterson (3:25)
Yeah.
Dan Hollaway (3:25)
I think it's more complicated than that from the owner's perspective.
You'd have to look this up to get the exact details, but I know there is a looming TV deal for 2029, a renegotiation, where they want to bring the whole thing under one house instead of having all this regional shit, which is, by the way, the regional stuff's been failing anyway. So. That's it's probably better for baseball to have it under one roof. It's definitely better for streaming fans to knock out the blackout bullshit and or at least make it negotiable to some degree. But if I can't remember what it is, if they lose, if there's a certain amount of revenue loss from missed games next season, it automatically triggers the next part of the contract or something like that. I don't remember exactly what it is. You have to look it up. But I don't think the owners can withstand a prolonged strike either, or prolonged lockout if that's what they decided to do. I don't think they can. So I don't think they're going to get because right now what the players, one of the things the Players Association has been talking about behind the scenes is reduced games in exchange for a salary cap or something similar to a salary cap. Who wants that? It's been 162 games for a fucking long time.
