Here we are with Spike's Car Radio. Here with Zuckerman, who's been up all night, not doing glow, and sitting in the Jonny seat, Jeff Glucker, editor-in-chief, senior editor of Motor1, editor-in-chief of Hooniverse, and former consulting producer of NBC Universal's hit show, Car Matchmaker, hosted by yours truly.
Says in his bio, he prefers old cars to new cars, says he'll never cheer for a West Coast sports team, and he appears to have a Boston Red Sox hat out there, so. I always forget that about you, you're from Boston.
Jeff Glucker (0:36)
Yes, sir.
Paul Zuckerman (0:36)
You sound like Bob Eubanks with this reading.
Spike Feresten (0:39)
I always forget that about you. You're from Boston.
Paul Zuckerman (0:42)
Quite a bit outside. What was it like growing up there?
Jeff Glucker (0:45)
It was great.
Spike Feresten (0:45)
Right beneath the green monster.
Jeff Glucker (0:47)
Yeah, exactly.
Spike Feresten (0:48)
I know, it's insane.
Jeff Glucker (0:49)
Thankfully shook the accent.
Spike Feresten (0:50)
But were you Boston proper, or were you outside like me? We always say Boston to sound fancy, but West Bridgewater.
Jeff Glucker (0:58)
I'm Winthrop.
Spike Feresten (0:59)
Winthrop! What's worse?
Jeff Glucker (1:01)
That's next to, in between East Boston and Revere. So that's pretty Boston.
Spike Feresten (1:06)
Winthrop is so forgotten. Like I have not heard the word Winthrop since 1976
Jeff Glucker (1:11)
You skim it as you landed Logan.
Spike Feresten (1:13)
Yeah.
Jeff Glucker (1:13)
It's pretty Boston.
Spike Feresten (1:14)
Oh, that's that? That's Winthrop?
Jeff Glucker (1:16)
Yeah.
Spike Feresten (1:16)
Because we were, you know, I was actually thinking about that patch of land as we were landing last year for the Audrain Concorde because I flew into Boston. And I was like, what the fuck is that?
Jeff Glucker (1:27)
There's a big water tower.
Spike Feresten (1:28)
Yeah.
Paul Zuckerman (1:28)
Yeah.
Spike Feresten (1:28)
There was some towers and there was some lights there. And there looked like there was a cafe or something. I'm looking out.
Jeff Glucker (1:34)
There's three different yacht clubs.
Spike Feresten (1:36)
Yeah, that's right. You know, what always made me laugh about that was the word yacht in Winthrop.
Jeff Glucker (1:40)
Sure.
Spike Feresten (1:41)
It's not it's not worthy of the word yacht.
Jeff Glucker (1:45)
My friend's dad had one of the biggest boats and it was 42 feet.
Spike Feresten (1:48)
Yeah, it's a boat club. It's a boat club.
Jeff Glucker (1:51)
Yeah. Boat club is probably fair.
Spike Feresten (1:53)
Do they have t-shirts?
Jeff Glucker (1:54)
Oh, they have tons of merch. I would like a Winthrop yacht club.
Paul Zuckerman (1:57)
I'll see what I can do.
Spike Feresten (1:58)
That's really funny.
Jeff Glucker (1:59)
I probably see the paradox. Yes, of course.
Paul Zuckerman (2:01)
Of course I do.
Spike Feresten (2:02)
We're trying to make ourselves fancy.
Paul Zuckerman (2:04)
And it's yeah.
Spike Feresten (2:06)
It's so great. Well, now now I understand why you're here. I just saw Boston Whales, some broken down sailboats and the word yacht. They went, what?
Anyway, it's good to have you on the show sitting in the Johnnys. Johnny's back in rehab again, but we wish him well.
Paul Zuckerman (2:22)
Food and booze.
Spike Feresten (2:23)
Food and booze. He's on a 90 day program, so we're going to have a lot of folks sitting in for him.
Paul Zuckerman (2:28)
Mm-hmm. But wish him your best.
Jeff Glucker (2:33)
I can't tell if that's true or not.
Spike Feresten (2:35)
It's not true.
Jeff Glucker (2:35)
I didn't think it was.
Spike Feresten (2:36)
It's not. By the way, at Audrain, this is going to be good. Johnny and I are going to be there. We're doing a bunch of shows, but we just booked Nick Schorsch, who's the guy who founded the Audrain Concourse. Really?
And the Audrain Museum. He apparently doesn't grant interviews. He's going to come do the show. You're always welcome to come, Zuckerman. I know you won't, but you're always welcome to come.
Paul Zuckerman (2:58)
Schorsch.
Spike Feresten (2:59)
And hang out. Newport with us.
Paul Zuckerman (3:00)
How do you spell it? Schorsch.
Spike Feresten (3:01)
Schorsch is a tough one. I thought it was horse, but it's Schorsch. It's S-C-H-O-R-S-C-H. It's double S-C-H's.
Jeff Glucker (3:10)
Schorsch.
Paul Zuckerman (3:11)
Schorsch. Hey, pass the Schorsch.
Jeff Glucker (3:14)
Apple Schorsch.
Spike Feresten (3:15)
He pioneered the 501C car collection.
Paul Zuckerman (3:20)
He Schorsched it.
Spike Feresten (3:21)
He Schorsched it into a museum, and it became a concor.
Paul Zuckerman (3:25)
Yes.
Spike Feresten (3:26)
There you go. There he is.
