Welcome back to the Daily Crypto Roundup. Bitcoin has broken below $81,000, and the sell-off is hitting other major tokens harder. Oil is climbing, interest rate pressure is returning, and almost $500 million has left Bitcoin funds. We will explain what changed, keep today's regulatory and adoption news, and finish with the extraordinary security argument dividing crypto's experts.

At the time of recording, Bitcoin is around $81,300, down approximately 2.5% over 24 hours, after touching about $80,943.

Ethereum is near $2,430 and lower by roughly 5.5%.

XRP is around $1.36, down approximately 5.2%.

Solana is near $108.80 and down about 6.9%, while Hyperliquid is around $84.40 and lower by approximately 3.9%.

Among these assets, Solana has taken the biggest percentage hit. This is a much broader retreat than Bitcoin's headline alone suggests.

Tell us which matters most to your next decision. Bitcoin reclaiming $82,000, oil cooling down, or fund buyers returning. New Kraken users who sign up using our link in the description can claim 20 XRP from Crypto News Today.

This is not financial advice. Crypto trading involves risk of loss. The important change is that Bitcoin's earlier attempt to stabilize failed. The market first lost $82,000 after United States' stocks opened, then briefly slipped below $81,000, its lowest level since September 21st. A support test has become a break of the recent trading range. The clearest external pressure is energy. Following an overnight tanker attack off Qatar, West Texas Intermediate Crude extended its gain to approximately 5.5%, reaching $93 a barrel.

Brent reached about $105.65.

The Nasdaq composite also fell, showing that investors were reducing risk beyond crypto.

Higher oil can keep inflation elevated, squeeze household spending and make central banks less willing to loosen policy. That combination is difficult for assets whose buyers depend heavily on available cash and appetite for risk. It offers a stronger explanation than simply calling every fall profit taking. The United States' 10-year treasury yield touched roughly 5.36% before easing. That distinction matters. Bitcoin kept weakening even after longer-term yields retreated from their highs. Bonds alone do not explain every trade, but borrowing costs remain elevated.

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller added to the pressure today. He said he expects additional rate increases if economic data evolve as anticipated, while allowing flexibility over timing. His words were, The hikes do not need to come at consecutive meetings. That is conditional policy guidance, not a guaranteed schedule. The Federal Reserve did not raise rates today. Weekly jobless claims also came in at 197,000 against expectations of 200,000. A resilient labor market gives policymakers more room to prioritize inflation. For crypto holders, good employment news can therefore co-exist with falling prices. Inside crypto, the demand picture has weakened. Completed figures released today show $487.1 million, leaving United States spot Bitcoin Exchange traded funds on Wednesday, the largest daily withdrawal since June 25th. BlackRock, Fidelity and ARK 21 shares products accounted for most of it. Those withdrawals mean a buyer that recently supported the market has become a source of net selling. They do not prove those same investors are selling throughout today's session. Thursday's final fund flows are still unavailable, and one negative day does not erase long-term institutional demand. There is also a dramatic government wallet headline that needs separating from the selling. United States government linked wallets moved 12,267 Bitcoin, worth about $1 billion from a Bitfinex seizure wallet.

The coins went to new, unlabeled addresses. No exchange deposit was recorded, and no sale has been established. A large transfer is not evidence that Washington dumped Bitcoin. The working explanation is several pressures reinforcing one another. Oil raises inflation concerns, restrictive policy limits risk appetite, and fund withdrawals weaken demand. Leveraged holders are especially vulnerable because falling collateral can force sales. But an updated liquidation total has not been verified for this latest leg, so we should not recycle an earlier number as today's final damage. The larger declines in Ethereum and Solana matter, because diversification across tokens has offered limited protection during this move. These assets have different networks and business cases, yet their prices are reacting together. That suggests a common pressure on risk appetite, although it cannot identify individual sellers. Cash holders gain purchasing power relative to the market. Existing holders absorb losses, and borrowers face collateral decisions. A rebound that reaches only Bitcoin would be less convincing evidence of broad stabilization than improving prices and trading conditions across several major assets.

For now, the market is repricing risk faster than institutional adoption announcements can offset it. What would challenge the bearish interpretation? Bitcoin recovering $82,000 and holding it while oil retreats and completed fund flows improve. Continued weakness below $81,000 instead puts the round $80,000 level in focus. Neither level guarantees a bounce. Would you trust a recovery driven by price alone? Or, demand evidence that the buyers have returned? Europe's stablecoin deadline remains consequential despite the market drama. The European Securities and Markets Authority wants providers authorized under the Markets and Crypto Assets Regulation to resolve legacy exposure to non-compliant stablecoins by January 8, 2027 This goes beyond exchange listings to services including custody, transfers and advice. Temporary exceptions can support an orderly exit from existing positions under supervision. Private ownership is not generally banned. Compliant issuers gain distribution, while affected holders may lose convenient services. The risk is pushing activity offshore. Watch your platform's token list, withdrawal arrangements and actual cutoff, rather than assuming every service lasts until January 8 If you want to protect your crypto with a hardware wallet, our Ledger link is in the description. Standard Chartered announced plans for digital asset custody in Singapore, covering selected cryptocurrencies, stable coins and tokenized assets for institutions and accredited corporate investors. Regulatory requirements still apply, and no launch date or asset list has been announced. The bank gains potential fees. Institutions gain another familiar custodian. Neither benefit establishes demand during this sell-off. Watch approval, asset segregation, supported tokens and the first client. A narrow or delayed launch would weaken the expansion story. Greece proposed a 10% tax on cryptocurrency capital gains, with an annual exemption worth about $560.
