From Carolla One Studios in Glendale, California, this is the Adam Carolla Show. Adam's guest today, Eric Andre.
Plus the news with Andrew Hobson, and now, Adam Carolla.

**Adam Carolla** (1:06)
Eric Andre has joined me.
The movie, Little Brother, it's on Netflix. Let's see, John Cena, who's just acting. I mean, which he does now, which is kind of crazy, but, you know, others, if The Rock can do it, then why can't Cena do it? And Schwarzenegger before him. Good to see Eric.

**Eric André** (1:30)
Good to see Adam.

**Adam Carolla** (1:31)
We're talking...

**Eric André** (1:32)
John's really good at it.

**Adam Carolla** (1:35)
I know, he's funny.

**Eric André** (1:36)
It's like crazy.

**Adam Carolla** (1:39)
Yeah, he...

**Eric André** (1:39)
Because you look at him, and you think this guy's like a hunk of bunk that's gonna, you know, just play like a bouncer. And, you know, or...

**Adam Carolla** (1:49)
I think his whole thing is, I'm just gonna outwork everybody and be really good at everything.

**Eric André** (1:56)
Do you know he taught himself Mandarin?

**Adam Carolla** (1:58)
Yeah, I do.

**Eric André** (1:59)
And he plays piano, like, virtuosically, like...

**Adam Carolla** (2:02)
That's what I'm saying.

**Eric André** (2:04)
He's a... He's a fascinating... He's like a profoundly fascinating guy.

**Adam Carolla** (2:10)
But he also could tend to shame people around him, because really the only thing that's standing in between us and that kind of John Cena...
Renaissance man thing is a little better work ethic. Like, I should play an instrument, but I'm too fucking lazy. And I should speak a language other than English, but I'm too lazy.

**Andrew Hobson** (2:33)
It's a lot of work.

**Adam Carolla** (2:34)
That's what I'm saying.

**Eric André** (2:36)
It's a lot of work.

**Adam Carolla** (2:36)
I... Nobody does the work.

**Eric André** (2:38)
I think work's overrated, though, a little bit. Like, you know what's awesome? Relaxing.

**Adam Carolla** (2:44)
It's your dad's side of the family talking.

**Eric André** (2:46)
My dad was a workaholic.

**Adam Carolla** (2:49)
Was he?

**Eric André** (2:49)
And would work seven days a week.

**Adam Carolla** (2:51)
Wait, where was your dad from?

**Eric André** (2:52)
My dad was from Haiti, and he came to...

**Adam Carolla** (2:55)
He's the only Haitian to work seven days a week.

**Eric André** (2:57)
He worked, like, an unbelievably insane amount, and he graduated the top of his med school. He came to America with 20 bucks in his pocket, and escaping a dictatorship, graduated top of his med school, but anyway, he ran a mental health hospital. He's a psychiatrist.

**Adam Carolla** (3:13)
Wow.

**Eric André** (3:13)
But he worked himself to death.

**Adam Carolla** (3:15)
Oh, really?

**Eric André** (3:16)
And then he died.

**Adam Carolla** (3:16)
Yeah.

**Eric André** (3:17)
I mean, I think he would have lived longer if he confronted the demons in his mind.

**Adam Carolla** (3:21)
Is there working yourself to death? Like, they do that thing a lot where it's like, her husband of 61 years died, and she died a month later. And wait a minute.

**Eric André** (3:29)
Can I throw out a how dare you? What do you mean, Haitians don't not know? We're the only successful slave revolt in the Western Hemisphere, and we defeated Napoleon's army using one of the earliest forms of biochemical warfare by luring the French army into mosquito beds where they had yellow fever, and we defeated Napoleon's fucking army, the toughest army in the world.

**Adam Carolla** (3:54)
I miss those Haitians.

**Eric André** (3:55)
So how dare you, sir, and I only have supported the Sicilian people from the beginning of my career till today.

**Adam Carolla** (4:04)
So your dad's Haitian and your mom is?

**Eric André** (4:08)
She's a Jew from from Harlem.

**Adam Carolla** (4:10)
Uh-huh.

**Eric André** (4:11)
And that she looks like Fran Lebowitz.

**Adam Carolla** (4:15)
That is she's still alive. That's a crazy pairing. How did those two meet?

**Eric André** (4:19)
They met. My dad lived in her building in the 70s in 1970 and was living with his brother at the time, my uncle. And she was organizing a rent strike because the landlord was like a slumlord and the tap water was coming out brown.
