Pioneering Today Podcast - Homesteading in a Modern World
October 9, 2026
For the past several months, I've felt the Lord laying a message on my heart: Get your house in order. For our family, that has meant deepening our relationship with Him and taking a fresh look at how we're caring for our home and pantry.

The message of getting your house in order. So many of you responded to that podcast and video episode, letting me know that you have been feeling the exact same thing. Thinking that you were alone and hearing that, or maybe just you and a couple of friends had been talking about it. And I think it's really important that we share, that we share those bigger things.
Meaning, I think it's important for me to share with you how many of you responded to that.
Oftentimes, we can feel like we are alone with things, or maybe God is just telling us to do something, and He often does tell us, obviously, to do things ourselves. But when we start to see it on a larger scale, and we see that He is impressing the same thing upon so many different people's hearts, people that don't know each other, have no connection to one another, but everybody is like, I have been feeling the same thing, like now somebody else said it, or I know somebody else. And so, I have gotten email messages, I've gotten messages on social media, obviously, beneath the video of this podcast episode, which is also on the YouTube channel. And so, being able to just see all of the different spots where that's coming in, and how many of you are feeling the same thing, gives confirmation that, for whatever reason, that God is putting this on people's heart in a way that I haven't personally seen before, and I don't think many of you have. Now, my name is Melissa K. Norris, if we haven't had the privilege of meeting before. And so today's message is really a continuation of that. So if you haven't listened to that episode, I highly recommend that you go back and catch that one. We'll link to it here on the podcast and the video notes as well as on the YouTube channel, but it's episode 521, We Were Never Meant to Live Unprepared. So today's episode is 522
And as I was kind of thinking about, where am I going to go with this series? Like, was that just it? Is there more to this message that I should be delivering right now? And I was praying and doing some prayer journaling yesterday, and God said, this is the message that I want you to move forward with, and it's, do not delay, stop putting things off. And I'm like, okay, like right now? And he's like, that's what this week's podcast episode is going to be about. So, here we are, kind of going into part two.
Now, we all have things that we kind of know we should be doing, or we've kind of felt like we need to do this, and we put things off.
Some people are more prone to procrastination than others, but we all do this to a degree where you know you've got things that you need to to deal with or to get working on, and we put them off for just various different reasons. So I'm going to ask you, with whatever first comes to mind on something that you have been delaying on or putting off, especially if it is something that you feel God has been prompting you to do or telling you to do, whatever that first thing is, is to write that down or to remember that. Obviously, if you're driving, I tend to listen to podcasts a lot when I'm on the road. But find a spot that you can make a note of that, and then really start to make some forward movement to doing whatever that thing is. Now, I know for a lot of you, obviously, that is getting your house in order.
I've also been doing the exact same thing, and I looked at the different pillars, if one will, that you have to your home and to your life. So, if you are a homesteader, obviously, I'm a homesteader, which really is just learning to live closer to the land and providing more things instead of having to purchase everything. There's lots of definitions. You don't have to have a full homestead in order to homestead. In fact, there is a lot of people who are learning how to grow food or learning how to preserve food, learning how to cook from scratch, learning how to build up a pantry and larder, even if you're in an apartment. I live in a manufacturer at home. This is a double-wide that we live in. So there's all kinds of ways that no matter if you live on acreage or not, that you can put these skills to use. And I know many of you are doing that exactly where you are with what you have. But as I was kind of examining the areas, there is faith.
