Hello, listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Law and Order Special Viewing Unit, the show where we view, review, and lovingly question mark, ridicule, everyone's favorite cop drama, Law and Order Special Victims Unit, every episode in a row from the beginning.
Aviv Rubenstein (0:19)
The way you said the, threw it through off my rhythm. So you don't have to.
Matthew Reuter (0:24)
Nor should you want to at this point. I am your host, Matt Reuter. Joining me as always, the Los Migras guy that was in Texas, and then now up in Manhattan for some fucking reason. Boy, this guy's got a real vendetta. I thought it was gonna be that guy was crooked somehow. It was one of the odds.
Aviv Rubenstein (0:44)
That guy definitely has like a dress made of women's skin somewhere.
Matthew Reuter (0:50)
Yeah, he's like the first cousin of Ed Gein. That is Aviv Rubenstein over there, not the cousin of Ed Gein, the Las Migras guy of Aviv Rubenstein over there. How are you doing today? And how many people have you separated from their children today, Aviv?
Aviv Rubenstein (1:05)
My cousin Nicky's pregnant. You know anyone else who's pregnant?
Matthew Reuter (1:09)
Carisi, aren't you a police detective? Like, really? This is...
Aviv Rubenstein (1:15)
And she says like, no, and he's like, come on, Rods, are we gonna do this?
Matthew Reuter (1:20)
Well, the fact that he asks Liv, it's like, is Rollins pregnant? It's like, that is not the person to be asking that question to.
Aviv Rubenstein (1:28)
How you doing with that?
Matthew Reuter (1:29)
If Rollins doesn't want to tell you if she's pregnant or not, then mind your own fucking business, Carisi.
Aviv Rubenstein (1:35)
Well, clearly, he thinks it's that guy from the motel two years ago because he's an idiot.
Matthew Reuter (1:43)
I just want to know, when was the last time that the two of them fought? Because they definitely have. They definitely have. Obviously, outside the window, that this possibility is Carisi.
So he's a bit salty about it. But how am I doing, Aviv? Oh, you know, it's about...
How good could anyone really be these days, ultimately? But whatever that level is, I suppose is where I am at. So I have a... The hottest of takes on a Reuter Recommend.
Aviv Rubenstein (2:17)
Oh, shit.
Matthew Reuter (2:18)
Okay.
Aviv Rubenstein (2:18)
Sure.
Matthew Reuter (2:19)
Are you ready for this? So Cassie and I, over the weekend, went up and saw a production of, and Cassie and Matt both recommend Cabaret.
Aviv Rubenstein (2:28)
Oh, Cabaret is great.
Matthew Reuter (2:30)
Yeah. I had never seen stage or the film adaptation.
Aviv Rubenstein (2:36)
The film is very good. It's different than the stage.
Matthew Reuter (2:40)
How different?
Aviv Rubenstein (2:41)
Very different.
Matthew Reuter (2:42)
Really?
Aviv Rubenstein (2:43)
Okay.
Matthew Reuter (2:43)
Well, same plot? I happen to...
Aviv Rubenstein (2:45)
Yeah, same plot. I don't know if you know this. I may have mentioned this on the show. The Altadena Musical Theater did Cabaret in 2024 and filmed it. And so last year, I cut together their pro shot of Cabaret. So I am very intimately familiar with that show. I know all the numbers. I know the tempos.
Matthew Reuter (3:10)
Oh, so they literally just had... They filmed the stage production?
Aviv Rubenstein (3:13)
They filmed the stage production from like nine different angles or whatever. And I... It was over like three nights.
Matthew Reuter (3:19)
And the movie is very different from that?
Aviv Rubenstein (3:21)
The movie I know a little less well, but I don't remember the subplot. You know the subplot of like the landlady and the fruit stand guy?
Matthew Reuter (3:30)
Yeah.
Aviv Rubenstein (3:31)
I don't think that that's in the movie at all.
Matthew Reuter (3:33)
Oh, that's a shame because that's kind of a big part of that whole thing.
Aviv Rubenstein (3:38)
Correct me if I'm wrong. And also...
Matthew Reuter (3:41)
How do you get rid of that? That's like a whole...
Aviv Rubenstein (3:44)
That's a whole...
Matthew Reuter (3:45)
That's a whole fucking thing. That leads into the act break.
Aviv Rubenstein (3:48)
Yeah, right, right.
Matthew Reuter (3:50)
So like, I don't really know what to do with that.
Aviv Rubenstein (3:51)
I remember there being... It's like a similar moment at the act break, but I also think...
I seem to remember that Cliff and the Nazi guy... I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if it's the same.
Matthew Reuter (4:10)
I don't remember his name.
Aviv Rubenstein (4:12)
No, but I also don't know if it's the same Nazi guy. I think it's like...
