Hello, listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Law and Order Special Viewing Unit, the show where we view, review, and lovingly ridicule everyone's favorite cop drama, Law and Order Special Victims Unit, every episode in a row from the beginning.

Aviv Rubinstein (0:16)

Because we're men.

Matthew Reuter (0:18)

I'm sure. I've never shot anything. Does that make me a man? I am.

Oh, I am your host, Matt the Pussy Roiter, as I have known apparently. And joining me as always on this, my one, I'm not going to say that my high, my highly rage filled son who shoots up a school yard. Oh, that's a bit of a side over there.

Aviv Rubinstein (0:46)

Why should I be able to play baseball or eat chocolate chou p waffles or go to college or kiss a girl?

Matthew Reuter (0:51)

You know, if you shoot yourself, it's really not justice Sam. So you know, go to jail and said no, no, no, no, no, Sam, you turd, you shoot carisi and then you shoot yourself dude.

Aviv Rubinstein (1:04)

I, this is not the the biggest drop off in quality, but I was like the first, like the the cold open and then the first act. I was like, do I like this episode? And then the show is like never mind.

Matthew Reuter (1:21)

Yeah, it, I don't, I have some questions about like the the opening of this, just because like the way it's shot is actually interesting. It's super interesting. But then it's like, well, how did they get this information? Because this still appears to be an active shooter situation, but they know that he's not there anymore. So it's not an active.

Aviv Rubinstein (1:42)

Yeah, I had questions about that too.

Matthew Reuter (1:44)

Yeah, I don't know. Was it supposed to be these were time jumps back? Or did they just not?

Okay, I bet it just had me very confused. I was like, wait, hold on. But is he like still in there?

Aviv Rubinstein (1:56)

Because otherwise, no, because apparently they well, they say that, but they say that they found the gun and he's just they're sure that he's gone.

Matthew Reuter (2:05)

And I'm like, I don't know about that, but that seems to be happening simultaneously as the cops and the principal and kids are still actually running out and swat is going in. So I'm like, so no, this is still an active shooter situation.

Aviv Rubinstein (2:16)

Why are you running out?

Matthew Reuter (2:17)

Yeah, I think they should have. What they should have said is that like their check, if they're going in to check to make sure there's not a second shooter, we didn't know about or like we don't know if he's still in there or not. Yeah, like you have to introduce some sort of ambiguity. Guess it's like no, no, no, no, no, no, no, we're sure.

Aviv Rubinstein (2:33)

We're sure he's gone right.

Matthew Reuter (2:35)

So I, that was, that was my main beef. That's why that's your big, how I mean in terms of the continuity and things, I there will be some interesting conversations. I'm sure to come out of this, not about the show itself, but about the greater ideas that it tries very clumsily to tackle.

Aviv Rubinstein (2:51)

We've done a school shooting episode before.

Matthew Reuter (2:54)

I don't think we have. We've done mass shootings.

Aviv Rubinstein (2:56)

I know that we've done mass shootings.

Matthew Reuter (2:58)

We've done mass killings of children.

Aviv Rubinstein (3:00)

Yeah, and I'm, but not in a school that there was like some sort of like incidental plot point with the school shooting.

Matthew Reuter (3:08)

No, there was, there was, it wasn't a mass school shooting like this because remember it was, it was a, it was that weird ending where like it just zooms out on Amaro and is there and the kid has got like the gun to get with. I think Rebecca Hendricks was in the episode or Christina Hendricks.

Aviv Rubinstein (3:28)

You did, you did that on the day.

Matthew Reuter (3:31)

It was a bad episode, yeah, and so there was a school shooting there.

Aviv Rubinstein (3:34)

But this is like, I think, the first one where like that's the main case of the week. I think, yes, I don't know, but I interrupted myself when I was asking you, how's your week been? How's your week been, man?

Matthew Reuter (3:51)

Oh, week's been, you know, as far as the world goes, it appears to be a week like any and every other.

So bad. Yeah, just terrible. Learned inadvertently, and I feel a bit foolish for not having known this was even a thing. But I learned about the practice of surveillance pricing this week in conversation with Cassie.
