I saw the social work match earlier.
I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm worried.
**Matthew Reuter** (0:14)
I am too?
No matter how hard they're gonna come for Zuckerberg and how bad they're gonna make him look, it's not bad enough, I assure you. It is as bad as they can make him look without getting sued into Oblivion.
**Aviv** (0:32)
Yeah.
**Matthew Reuter** (0:33)
About a movie, about Mark Zuckerberg suing people into Oblivion.
**Aviv** (0:37)
I also think, unfortunately, I mean, listen, I still like Aaron Sorkin, Aaron Sorkin, my own dick. I think that because of his history with the subject matter, if I tried to do this, I would get sued way faster than Sorkin. Yeah.
**Matthew Reuter** (0:56)
I mean, I think this-
**Aviv** (0:57)
Or if any filmmakers tried to do it.
**Matthew Reuter** (0:59)
It's a different movie. It's a different, everything like that. But I think it's going to be very interesting to see that movie because for me, it'll turn into the great question of, was it Shaq or Kobe that made that Lakers team great? Was it Tom Brady or was it Bill Belichick? The only way to find out is to split them up. So Fincher is involved but he's not officially directing, but apparently he consulted.
**Aviv** (1:24)
Yeah, I don't know what that really means.
**Matthew Reuter** (1:26)
I don't know what that means either, but I was reading something about it. I think it was probably one of the trades, so it's probably apocryphal. But I don't know, it's the great question, at least for me, is who really, Fincher can only polish a turd so much if it's not well written.
And, you know, a different director. Yeah, so I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. It worked so well the first time, so that's why I'm like, I don't know, I don't know.
**Aviv** (1:55)
I mean, lightning in a bottle the first time.
**Matthew Reuter** (1:57)
I know, it makes me nervous because I'm like, I like the first one so much and I almost want to keep it in amber and not see the new one.
**Aviv** (2:06)
I know. I've told my students, I've said this in classes that the only flaw with the social network is that it ends 10 years too early.
**Matthew Reuter** (2:16)
No, it's okay. It's before all the allegations. It's like the Michael Biopic. We just ended there. It's fine.
Nothing bad happened after that. Stop.
**Aviv** (2:25)
Well, they didn't know at the time.
**Matthew Reuter** (2:27)
Oh, I think the social reckoning is going to tell us that they did.
**Aviv** (2:32)
Yeah. Potentially. Yeah. But like the movie ends in 2008 or so, and the script is written in 2009
So they didn't know fully. But yeah, I think I'm a little afraid. I'm a little afraid, especially because I think what I think should be done with Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg is I don't necessarily, I don't know that Sorkin and I are on the same page with what the consequences should be. And I'm worried about the like very sort of West Wing-esque rubbery dicks like, all we have to do is open a dialogue between all of us and then everything will be okay.
**Matthew Reuter** (3:22)
We just need to believe.
**Aviv** (3:23)
Yeah, I'm worried that that will be-
**Matthew Reuter** (3:25)
And the power of coming back to our senses.
**Aviv** (3:29)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
**Matthew Reuter** (3:30)
The fever is going to break. Don't worry, everyone.
**Aviv** (3:32)
I'm so worried that that's going to be like the message at the end of the social reckoning.
And I'm going to be like, God damn it. But maybe you won't. Maybe it'll just be like, this is terrible, which is correct.
**Matthew Reuter** (3:46)
I mean, given the tone, at least again, just based off of the trailer, it does seem pretty fucking cynical. It doesn't seem like it's got a lot of hope in there. Now, that is not to say because it's Aaron Sorkin. And I mean, he can be cynical, but probably not as cynical as he needs to be. Yeah, as reality is. But I would be very surprised just given the subject matter of the fucking movie.
I would just be very surprised if the ultimate takeaway is like, don't we all just need to bring the temperature down? Isn't this all of our faults?
**Aviv** (4:23)
I mean, you say that, but my man Aaron wrote some op-ed for, I don't even remember what publication, saying that after Biden stepped aside and said that he wasn't going to run for reelection, that the Democrats should nominate Mitt Romney.
