Connor (0:20)

Hello, everyone, and welcome to episode 370 of The Board Game BBQ Podcast brought to you by Advent Games, more than Meeple's and our Patreons. Yes, once again, you have Connor here in one of the host chair, but I am joined by none other than the banana herself, Dana Banana, Dana Banana, Dana Banana, Dana Banana.

Dana (0:46)

I think I say that every day, or every, at least every week, because people often call me Dana all the time, and I say, no, like banana. And they remember it. Yeah, they remember it.

Connor (1:00)

Yeah.

Dana (1:01)

I always wanted a banana costume.

Connor (1:05)

You could do the peanut butter jelly time. Do you know that, do you know what I'm talking about?

Dana (1:09)

No, go.

Connor (1:10)

Oh, no, no, it's like, we, yeah, we, it's from like, it's from ages ago. Like, I'm really, it's a deep cut.

Dana (1:18)

When you were a child?

Connor (1:20)

Nah, yeah, kind of. Yeah, yeah, actually, when I was a teenager, yeah. It was like one of the very first internet-like things, like memes. Peanut butter jelly time.

Dana (1:30)

Am I, no? I'm really, I'm really showing my age.

Connor (1:34)

You, I thought I had, I looked at the look on your face, and it was almost like you were like, I was nearly near a memory, but anyway, whatever.

Dana (1:42)

No, there's no memories at all.

Connor (1:44)

We, they're all gone, they're all gone.

So a little bit of inside information is that you guys won't hear them, nor, well, you don't see them anyway because it's a podcast. We actually have a couple of people having a bit of a sneaky, peaky spy on us this afternoon, just learning the ropes. So we're not going to give away who it is. But yeah, we're really excited to have them in here. Hopefully, Dana can behave herself, which would be nice for a change. And they can learn the good habits, not the bad habits.

Dana (2:18)

We're just going to say we're showing them what not to do.

Connor (2:20)

Yeah, what not to do. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Dana (2:21)

And then next time when Joe's on and Jules, then they can learn really what they should be doing.

Connor (2:27)

Yes, yes, that's right. Yes, the true professionals of the group. What's something that you worried about that wasn't actually a big deal when you first started? What do you think?

Dana (2:39)

That I would sound dumb.

Connor (2:44)

Is that why you choose to be on the show with me so much?

Dana (2:47)

I'm actually not sure if that actually is true.

It probably is. I don't know, but I think that was my main worry that I thought I would sound dumb. Now, you have to bear in mind that we had deaf on the podcast at that point, and that scared the crap out of me being on a podcast with deaf, because he talks and I'd sort of, my mind just sort of drifts off, and that's because I'm thick, not because of deaf.

Connor (3:17)

He uses words with more than two syllables, is that one?

Dana (3:20)

Yeah, that's true.

Connor (3:21)

Yeah, right.

Dana (3:23)

So I was worried. I think I was worried about that. What about you when you first started?

Connor (3:28)

We just, I just didn't know if anyone ever listened. Like when we started, but we were stoked to have people outside of our media family listening, and then it just became a really cool community. I think we, when we started out, when we started the Discord, when we first had the first couple of people that joined the Discord, we were like, oh, awesome. And yeah, it was, it was just super cool that people wanted to join the Discord. I wanted to listen.

And I still remember really early, there was like a international gaming festival, like online, that we all joined. And that's how we met Thomas from Germany, is he just joined in to one of the games as well.

Dana (4:11)

Oh, Rossner, Rossner, yeah.

Connor (4:13)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was just not trying to dox him.

Anyway, yeah, it was through that. So I think that's what it was. Like I wasn't really scared of anything or worried about anything. It was more just, I mean, I was on episode zero, and that's notorious as being like absolutely garbage.

Dana (4:33)

What, the worst?

Connor (4:34)

Yeah.

And most of it was because of me. So it's like, I'd already done it. So I didn't mind too much.

Dana (4:45)

I was just curious.
