Episode #172: I've Had 25 Root Canals… Should I Be Worried? - Featuring Dr. Dominik Nischwitz
The Dylan Gemelli Podcast
October 15, 2026
I've spent a big part of my life focused on health, fitness, nutrition, and finding ways to get the most out of my body. But one thing I never paid nearly enough attention to was my mouth. I've had around 25 root canals and plenty of dental work over the years.

It's the biggest lie in the whole world that a nice smile means health underneath. It could be the total opposite. You could be looking beautiful, and I see your x-ray and I see Terminator underneath. I'm the health expert that I would have needed 20 years ago to straight away give me a pathway to optimal health. And I discovered in between, you need a dentist, because of the previous dental repair, because that's the most unnatural bit in your body, and you cannot biohack your way around it. Do you think tooth decay, which is number one chronic disease worldwide, is A, a fluoride deficiency, or B, a lack of nutrients? Why do we get tooth decay in the first place? Why do we even need dental repair? The worst enemy for the tooth is actually the dental drill. But we do not learn how to avoid it.

I think I've had 25 root canals, something like that. So there's four sides of wisdom teeth right, I had one out. Let's just use me as an example of what the process would be for me, so people can grasp, somebody could screw it up, what you're going to do for me. So first of all, here's an interesting question. How much do you actually know about the way your everyday habits are supporting how you age? We hear so much about longevity right now, sleep, protein, strength training, nutrition, all of these things matter, but there's another layer that doesn't get nearly as much attention as it should. What's happening inside your cells? Your mitochondria produce the cellular energy that your body relies upon every day, and mitochondrial dysfunction, that's considered a central hallmark of aging, and that's why I've been so interested in the work Timeline does with Mitopeer. Mitopeer is their pure and patented form of Urolithin A. It supports mitochondrial function and cellular renewal by activating mitophagy, your body's natural process for clearing out damaged mitochondria. But rather than just tell you about it, Timeline wants you to think about your own longevity habits. So they've created a longevity quiz that takes just a few minutes, and it looks at some of the everyday habits that can support healthy aging. And the best part, if you complete the quiz, Timeline will send you a free sample of might-appear gummies. So take the quiz, learn a little bit more about how you're supporting the way you age, and try might appear for yourself. Go to timeline.com/gemelli to take the longevity quiz and get your free gummies. That's timeline.com/gemelli.
All right, everybody, welcome back to The Dylan Gemelli Podcast. All smiles today, and you're going to know right away why. My guest today and I have been talking for quite a while now. I don't know, seven, eight months, we've been trying to set this up. Not easy considering where he's from. It's a long distance journey to come and see me. But man, I have been waiting for this for such a long time. When I first found out about my guest, I was intrigued right off the bat, and I'm one of those people where if I want somebody, I'm not going to stop till I get them.
That's what I did with my guest today. But listen, a lot of you are going to know who he is. I'm going to give him a little introduction. I want to take as much of the time that I can to maximize learning what he's got because it is on a different level of learning. So he is one of the world's leading, I would say the leading, biological dentists. He's the founder of BioDentistry 3.0, and that is the fusion of high tech dentistry with functional medicine and longevity health optimization. And he's the author of It's All in Your Mouth, and he's built a global standard, BioDentistry Global Standard, which is training dentists worldwide to find what everyone else missed.
I can't say enough about my guy here today. We have a lot of similarities. We grew up around the same time periods. He's my guy. You'll know him as Dr. Dom, not Dome. He corrected me right away as Dr. Dom. Dr. Dominik Nischwitz.
Dominik Nischwitz (3:37)
Thank you so much for having me, Dylan. Appreciate it.
Dylan Gemelli (3:40)
Thank you so much for coming and seeing me, brother.
I have, like I said, have been looking forward to this conversation. I hit it off with you immediately. We have, like I said, similarities for our love of Jordans and shoes and everything else, but of health and impact. And you make a massive impact because you do something special, you do something different, and you've incorporated dentistry with overall health standards. And so I kind of want to get into, first of all, what drove you to become a dentist, because we were talking off camera a little bit, and this was not really your preferred profession. So let's talk about what you wanted to do and how you're kind of coordinating that with what you're doing now.
