Welcome to The Bossticks.

Starring Lauryn Bosstick and Michael Bosstick. Together, they are The Bossticks.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:15)

Welcome back to The Bossticks. Today marks our thousandth episode.

Michael Bosstick (0:21)

One thousand.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:22)

One thousand.

Michael Bosstick (0:23)

I'm usually not big, like on big celebrations or anniversaries or all that. I mean, our anniversary. But thousands of episodes is a lot of episodes.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:31)

That's a lot of episodes. When we started this show, we started from our closet with two microphones.

We were with my sister-in-law, Jordan Bosstick, and Taylor, our producer, who was in the background holding a camera. He's still our producer today.

Michael Bosstick (0:47)

It was like 220 bucks, I think, for all of the equipment to start the entire show, and maybe a $10 hosting platform.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:54)

It's crazy how we are here after 10 years still on a mic.

Michael Bosstick (0:59)

And still together.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:00)

And still together. I can't believe we're still together after 1,000 episodes.

Michael Bosstick (1:04)

What's a crazy statistic, and again, I'm not one on these milestones. I want to be careful. It's like, okay, everyone's always celebrating something, which is good to pat yourself on the back. But what I did find cool, Lauryn, is that The Simpsons has 800 and something episodes, and we have 1,000. So we have more episodes than The Simpsons. Now, of course, The Simpsons has been on a lot longer than us because they do it in seasons. But if you just think about the content catalog, we have like 100 and something, 150, 160, whatever, more episodes than The Simpsons, which is crazy if you think about the output of content over a decade.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:40)

How does it make you feel that we've had 1,000 episodes?

Michael Bosstick (1:44)

I feel like I've now earned the right to be able to say, I can do an interview show and that I'm actually a, I'm hesitant to use the word, but expert podcaster, because I've got to 1,000. For a little history, for those of you who are new to the show or those who've been here for a while, this show started, like Lauryn said, in our closet 10 years ago, pretty much off the success of her blog, The Skinny Confidential. It started in 2016, in March of 2016, I remember, because we were in New York City, and at the time we were launching the show, and Lauryn was invited on the Ask Gary Vee Show with our friend Gary Vaynerchuk, who's now been on this show three times.

Lauryn Bosstick (2:29)

You snuck on.

Michael Bosstick (2:29)

And I snuck on, and I was not scheduled. He was not supposed to be on, you guys. I did, because we got to get on to promote the show. We knew nothing about how to promote the show, so I snuck on.

If you go and Google the Ask Gary Vee Show, and you search Lauryn and Michael Bosstick, you'll see when we launched it what we looked like, and that I snuck on.

Lauryn Bosstick (2:45)

By the way, there's not supposed to be a camera there for him or anything. It's like he's blurry in the background. It's sneaking on like Pinocchio in the back, hanging from the ceiling.

Michael Bosstick (2:53)

It's funny because Gary, when we see him, we laugh about it still to this day.

But I just want to remind some people of what's happened since then. Lauryn and I got married since then. We've had three children since then. We moved from California to Texas since then. I started the company Dear Media that we produce now over a few hundred shows. We have hundreds of team members that now work. We have an office in LA, Austin, New York. We're getting ready to do a studio pop-up here in the Hamptons, and I don't say all this to brag, but I say it to just share to people what a little bit of time and persistence and some compounding working on the same thing can do. It's like this tiny little idea, which at the time was just this audio podcast show, Husband and Wife Answering Listener Questions, has really now span into a very large business, spanning live events and commerce and shows, and we produce for other people and IP and investments into businesses like Lauryn's and others. And so it's interesting what can be accomplished in a decade. And Tony Robbins has that saying, like we underestimate what we can do in a year and overestimate, or no, we overestimate what we can do in a year and we underestimate what we can do in a decade. And I think that's what we've found here.
