This is a HeadGum Podcast.

While Andrew and Craig believe the joy of discovery is crucial to enjoying any well-told tale, they will not shy away from spoiling specific story beats when necessary. Plus, these are books you should have read by now.

**Craig** (0:40)
Hey everybody, welcome to Overdue. It's a podcast about the books you've been meaning to read. My name is Craig.

**Andrew** (0:45)
My name is Andrew.

**Craig** (0:46)
And locked in this tomb with us, we have a guest. Please introduce yourself.

**Meghan Winch** (0:52)
Hi, well, I'm in the body of Meghan, but the sole part is a mystery that will get unlocked maybe over the course of this.

**Andrew** (1:00)
We had planned to make this a two-person podcast, but then we were talking about it, and we thought that it would work better if there was one more person. So it's a three-person podcast now.
It is. Yeah.

**Craig** (1:14)
It's like inside of a two-person podcast body.

**Meghan Winch** (1:17)
Yeah.

**Craig** (1:19)
Unmaking the reality of our universe. This is our book podcast where each week, some of us read a book and tell the others of us about it, and you get to listen along.
Meghan, welcome back to the show. What book did we read, you and me, for this week's show?

**Meghan Winch** (1:39)
We read Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir.

**Craig** (1:43)
The third out of four.

**Meghan Winch** (1:46)
The surprise third.

**Andrew** (1:48)
The third in the four book trilogy, yes.

**Craig** (1:53)
What is it? Is it Irish Twins? Is that the phrase of a book? Is that what you say of a book?
Yes, and you've been on the show before, Meghan. What was that for?

**Andrew** (2:08)
Fry green tomatoes, remember?

**Meghan Winch** (2:10)
That's right.

**Craig** (2:11)
That was four.

**Meghan Winch** (2:11)
That's the one.

**Craig** (2:12)
That was a good one.

**Andrew** (2:12)
Were you doing that thing where you were asking Meghan because you want to Meghan to tell you, like when I ask, well, like when you ask Simon a question and Henry answers it, and it's like, but they would, we know that. Yeah.

**Craig** (2:22)
It was a combination of parenting brain and podcast host brain where I ask a question I know the answer to, so that the person I'm talking to talks instead.
But yeah, we're going to talk about this third book in the series. I was interested to read it, but I was not necessarily interested in just locking Andrew in the tomb alone with me again.

**Andrew** (2:47)
I have heard, I've listened to you tell me about two other books in the series, and I'm no closer to understanding what any of them are about.

**Craig** (2:56)
Yeah.

**Meghan Winch** (2:56)
Yeah, that's right.

**Craig** (2:57)
That might not happen today, but I thought, we thought maybe Meghan, did you read these before I read any of them?

**Meghan Winch** (3:06)
So, no, I read Nona before you, but I actually read Gideon and Harrow because of the podcast.

**Craig** (3:14)
I'm sorry.

**Meghan Winch** (3:15)
So I listened to Harrow's episode, then tried to forget it, went back and read Gideon and Harrow, and then continued right on to Nona.

**Craig** (3:26)
And you're a sicko for these books.

**Meghan Winch** (3:27)
Oh yeah, I am. Yeah.

**Craig** (3:30)
I remember.

**Meghan Winch** (3:31)
I'm deep in the tank, deep in the tomb.

**Andrew** (3:33)
Try to find like a more value neutral way to.

**Meghan Winch** (3:36)
No, it's fine.

**Craig** (3:37)
No, I got texts about them while she was reading them. They were bonkers. Yeah.
And so it's just good, you know, it's good to put our cards on the table.

**Meghan Winch** (3:46)
That's right. Yeah. Yeah. No.
Yeah. Deep in the tank. It's.

**Craig** (3:51)
What do you like about them? Hard-hitting interview.

**Meghan Winch** (3:58)
Yeah.
I love the world building to the extent that I understand it. But I just. There's always something new and surprising. There's always something really creative. The way I feel about these books because like, yes, I don't know that I have a firm grasp on everything that's happening. But I know that she does. And so I feel like well taken care of even. I feel like you're in good hands. Exactly. Exactly. So I'm happy to visit this world. I think every one of them has been really formally inventive in a way that's delightful.
And I've loved every individual voice. You talked about this on the Gideon and the Harrow Pods about how the voices on each of them. Yeah. Suit their narrator and suit their particular story. And it's true of Nona too. So that's something I really love about them as well.
