Scott (0:24)
Hey team, welcome back to the movies. Ry, how the hell are you?
Ryan (0:29)
What's happening, hoops?
Scott (0:32)
Cod, how are you doing?
Mike (0:32)
Hey, good morning.
Scott (0:34)
I thought we were just talking about a pre-show, and we thought we'd immediately get on air to talk about how Steven Soderbergh has hopped onto The Batman Part 2 to finish the production of the film. Matt Reeves had to step away for a family emergency, and this is weird and interesting.
Ryan (0:58)
I don't know how to feel about it, because they're very... I mean, I don't know a lot of Matt Reeves' work, admittedly. I know how the first Batman was and Penguin.
Scott (1:07)
He did the three of the Apes... No, he did Dawn of the Plan of the Apes and War for the Plan of the Apes.
Ryan (1:13)
The pre-Franco or post-Franco ones?
Scott (1:16)
Post-Franco.
Ryan (1:16)
Gotcha.
Scott (1:17)
And it's interesting that Steven Soderbergh, a famously like indie director, has been dabbling in like big productions lately. He had that Kylo Ren movie with Adam Driver that didn't go, but he was going to make a Star Wars movie. Now he's working on a Batman movie. I like this for him.
Mike (1:37)
I mean, he made the Ocean's Trilogy with some of the biggest people in Hollywood.
Scott (1:40)
That's true. But like he's like an indie shoot-it himself. Like he's his own cinematographer, his own editor type stuff. And now he's doing some big shit.
Mike (1:51)
I just found this new... I thought this was fake news. I just found out about this recently.
Ryan (1:55)
We are not in the fake news corner, just to reiterate. Yeah, this is real.
Mike (2:00)
This is weird. Like why...
Scott (2:02)
I'm going to watch the movie and be like, I think that looked like a Soderbergh shot.
Now we're back to Reeves. I'm Aaron.
Mike (2:08)
Why did he say yes to this? Like this is so bizarre to me.
Ryan (2:11)
Probably a big check.
Mike (2:12)
But why him?
Scott (2:13)
I think he approached Matt Reeves. That was the story I saw. I guess maybe they're friends, and he wanted to help out.
Ryan (2:21)
I believe Matt Reeves is actually going through a public battle of rabies, and that's why he had to step away.
Mike (2:26)
A long public battle?
Scott (2:28)
He was bitten by the Batman?
Ryan (2:32)
I saw something online of a guy saying he wanted to piss his HOA off, so he put a thousand bat-holding bat house in his backyard and just flooded the neighborhood with bats. I'm thinking I might do that. They get rid of insects, too.
Okay.
I kind of like bats. Where do we stand on bats?
Mike (2:49)
No.
Ryan (2:50)
No, Mike, you don't want to go down the bat corner?
Mike (2:52)
I'm all set with bats.
Ryan (2:54)
How many more times do you think they're going to bump this movie? Like, do you think Soderbergh is going to get it done, or are they going to bump it again?
I feel like we should place a bet on that.
Scott (3:02)
Yeah, Stephen Soderbergh should be nervous that something's going to happen to him to prevent him from finishing the movie.
Ryan (3:07)
The movie's like the Crowe set where it's just cursed.
Scott (3:10)
Could be.
But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how their styles gel, if at all. It's weird.
Mike (3:20)
Yeah, like, is this going to feel like two different films? Sometimes movies can, like this.
Scott (3:24)
Yeah, and I love knowing, like, I want to know exactly how much of it they finished, so you can, you know, just be aware and try to figure out which scene was by who.
Mike (3:34)
I wonder who gets the credit.
Ryan (3:37)
Both?
Mike (3:38)
I think both.
Ryan (3:39)
What's another movie where something like this has happened?
Scott (3:41)
Solo, a Star Wars story. This has happened with another Batman movie.
Zack Snyder left Justice League, and then Joss Whedon came on to finish it. And then everyone hated what Joss Whedon did to it, and then years later, Zack Snyder returned to finish his version of the movie, which is known as Zack Snyder's Justice League.
Ryan (4:03)
Justice League was in the news this week because Ben Affleck was in an interview and said that the reshoots on Justice League were the worst period of his entire life.
Mike (4:11)
The lowest point in his professional life, I believe.
Ryan (4:13)
Which is hilarious.
Scott (4:14)
Yeah, watching it was the lowest point of my...
