Scott (0:24)
Hello, team. Welcome back to the Only Podcast, where you can hear a few guys talk about the movies.
Ryan (0:32)
Wow.
Scott (0:33)
How are we doing?
Mike (0:34)
Doing well, hoops.
Scott (0:35)
What's happening? We're all back.
We all saw Resident Evil, hot new release, fucking burning up the box office. Biggest opening is Zack Craig's career, biggest opening for a Resident Evil movie, of which there are, I think, dozens. So that's a big deal.
Ryan (0:53)
I didn't realize there were, I think there are five in legitimacy.
Scott (0:57)
I think there were at least six in the Mila Jovovich-led franchise, which I thought was funny.
She was being interviewed somewhere, and she said, I'm glad Resident Evil is getting a proper adaptation. And it's like, you and your husband made those other Resident Evil movies. She's married to Paul WS. Anderson.
Mike (1:21)
Those movies suck. He's the good Paul Anderson.
Scott (1:23)
I just thought it was funny that she, the star of them, admitted that they weren't a proper adaptation.
Mike (1:29)
Her husband ruined her career.
Scott (1:31)
I mean, that happens a lot. See Melissa McCarthy and her husband for other examples of this.
Ryan (1:36)
Yeah, I think Mila, after she did Fifth Element, was, she's attractive, she had a thing going on. She probably could have done 40 decent A-list type sci-fi movies. And then she just spent 15 years making Resident Evil instead.
Scott (1:50)
There was a period of time where her, all you needed to get a movie made was like her in a sci-fi action CGI. Like you remember that movie Ultraviolet?
Ryan (2:00)
Sure do.
Mike (2:01)
You remember The Messenger?
Ryan (2:02)
Is she in Lucy?
Mike (2:05)
No.
Scott (2:05)
Who is that? Yeah.
Ryan (2:07)
Ah, yeah, okay.
Scott (2:08)
But it could be a movie.
Mike (2:09)
It could have been her.
Scott (2:09)
Yeah. Like she she had a run, and they I think her husband directed her most recent movie Into the Badlands. It's like her and Dave Bautista.
Ryan (2:21)
I think I shut that.
Scott (2:22)
I think it went straight to like Tulu or something fucked up. But either way, Resident Evil, new ones out. We're going to be talking about it later in the program.
First, my most important news story of the week, Vin Diesel posted a picture to Instagram the other day.
Ryan (2:40)
Read that.
Scott (2:41)
My favorite website. It's my home page, instagram.com/vindiesel.
He posted a picture of him and George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise with the caption. Wait, what was the caption again?
Monty (2:56)
It was like we're both like, architect, I created.
Scott (2:59)
Architects of mythology. Wow.
Mike (3:03)
It's not true.
Ryan (3:04)
And it's a dumb thing to say.
Mike (3:06)
What are you talking about? He really believes it.
Scott (3:09)
He does. And I believe it too.
Vin, I hope that this means they're collaborating. Maybe we get Jar Jar Binks in Fast Forever. I think that might hit the spot.
Ryan (3:21)
I think Vin Diesel might be the definition of the Emperor's new clothes in the sense that there's probably a team of yes men around him just because he is a billion dollar guy in terms of the, you know, he's been at the helm of three franchises and like it's somehow they've all done well, gotten multiple sequels.
Scott (3:40)
Thank you for noticing.
Ryan (3:41)
And there's just.
Scott (3:42)
That means I'm an architect.
Ryan (3:44)
Andy has like a small little music career going, like he's just out of his mind.
Scott (3:49)
Nothing small about it.
Ryan (3:51)
No one is telling him what he needs to hear.
Scott (3:52)
It's burgeoning. I got a new cut.
Mike (3:56)
He's gonna end up directing that movie.
Ryan (3:58)
100%, yeah.
Scott (3:59)
I feel like it's being made right now. I want to go to the set and see what's happening because I bet it's wacky.
Mike (4:06)
They haven't announced the director, right?
Scott (4:07)
No. I think it was supposed to be the guy who did the last one. I think he bailed to fucking have a goo, just kind of hang out.
Ryan (4:17)
Yeah, who was the last guy? I can't even remember.
Scott (4:19)
Louis Leterrier.
Ryan (4:20)
Didn't James Wan walk off one of them?
Scott (4:23)
No.
Mike (4:23)
Or was that a while ago? The other guy? Justin Lin?
Scott (4:26)
Justin Lin left Fast X weeks into filming because of alleged disagreements with Vin Diesel.
Ryan (4:38)
I don't have anything to say about that.
Scott (4:40)
