Happy to have you.
**Stephen Skasz** (2:21)
Happy to have you here. This is going to be fun. Can you share with us what humanity training involves and why it's essential for modern organizations and leaders?
**Lisa M. Brazelton** (2:35)
Yes. I think that one of the most important characteristics of a good leader is self-awareness.
What is self-awareness? It's a term that's been used a lot. I think self-awareness is the ability to perceive self outside of self. Really what that means is that we have a level of consciousness that is divided, and that dividedness actually, we divide it within itself, so we can perceive something outside of us. And so I think that that's really the bedrock of everything that I'm doing now, is helping people understand who they are. And as leaders, when leaders understand who they are at the core, they can change, they can be amazing leaders and bring about a culture that is truly profound.
**Stephen Skasz** (3:40)
Yeah, you know, I always say, as a leader, you know, you need to deal with your shit, basically, sometimes. I mean, because your people don't need that imposed on them. And if you aren't, you know, doing that sort of self-assessment, self-awareness, you aren't aware of kind of the culture and the environment and what you're creating because of, you know, things you just haven't worked out in your life or solved. Can you tell me, like, what inspired you to focus on humanity training, empathy, mindfulness and leadership? How has your personal journey kind of influenced your work today?
**Lisa M. Brazelton** (4:26)
Yeah, that's such a great question.
I spent about 28 years running companies. I started and founded eight out of the 11 that I helped all startups. And they are everywhere from insurance to training, coordination and logistics to project management, and then leadership training. And so much of my life as a business owner and a CEO, I felt that I was living two different lives. I felt like I was having to be, I would say, be a leader and lead an organization or in my case, I always led multiple organizations at the same time. And then the other side was, well, how do I help humanity? And it was in the mid teens, 2015, 14, where I realized that I just needed to marry both of that together, basically myself. And that's where it really took. And I really laid the groundwork for me to get out of being a CEO and into, how do I help others become the best version of themselves? And so I feel very called as someone who has spent many years, I've spent over 25 years meditating. I am a devote meditator. And that has really made a huge impact in my life. And I see just with working with clients, teaching them basic skills in breathwork and things like that, it makes a huge impact in their lives. And then when you put that with people who are leading organizations, they end up changing their entire organization because they've changed themselves.
