Emotional Intelligence at Home-Service Scale with Michael Silva-Nash

The Bliss Business Podcast

September 3, 2026

Home services are built inside deeply personal spaces. When a team enters someone’s home, they are not just delivering a service. They are entering a place connected to family, routines, trust, privacy, stress, pride, and peace of mind.

Stephen Sakach (0:18)

Welcome back to the show, everyone. I'm Stephen Sakach here once again with my co-host Tullio Siragusa, and we've got a special guest who we'll introduce in a moment.

We've mentioned how home services are some of the most personal services a business can provide, and one of the most personal is probably house cleaning. When someone invites the team into their home, they're inviting them to a space filled with family routines, privacy, memories, and trust plays a big role here. The work has a very strong emotional component to it. Today, we're exploring the power of emotional intelligence in business through the lens of Molly Maid, one of Neighborly's Home-Service brands. Tullio, tell our audience about our guest.

Tullio Siragusa (1:05)

Absolutely. Our guest today is Michael Silva-Nash. He is the president of Molly Maid. This is a special continuation of a conversation we began in July when we hosted Mike Davis, who is the CEO of Neighborly, to explore empathy, culture, and leadership at Neighborly at Scale.

We loved learning about the values behind Neighborly and how, and now we're excited to keep learning more from brand presidents who bring that culture to life across individual brands. The first brand we have from Neighborly is Molly Maids. Michael was named president of Molly Maid in December 2025, coming up on a year, and brings more than two decades of experience within the Molly Maid network. He first joined the system more than 20 years ago and spent 12 years as a multi-location franchise owner, before moving into corporate leadership. Today, Molly Maid is part of the Neighborly Family of Home-Services providers, and has 246 locations. Michael, welcome to The Bliss Business Podcast.

Michael Silva-Nash (2:07)

Thank you. Thanks for having me. Really excited to be here and follow up Mike. He's a phenomenal leader and mentor.

It's an honor to be able to follow, literally in his digital footsteps onto your podcast. Yeah. Thanks for having me.

Stephen Sakach (2:22)

Michael, I'm really looking forward to this conversation. In home cleaning, as I mentioned, your teams aren't just providing a service where they're entering someone's personal space.

Michael Silva-Nash (2:33)

That's right.

Stephen Sakach (2:34)

When inside a client's home like that, how does that change maybe the way that leaders need to think about that customer experience?

Michael Silva-Nash (2:43)

It's huge. I often tell, when I was franchise and I'd often tell my teams, first of all, when you're having a terrible day at work or maybe you dealt with some road rage on the way back home or you're going back home, you really think about, I want to be home. That is people's safe place. That's people's sanctuary. That's where everyone, even if you're going on a great trip, there's no place like home. You want to be there.

Teaching your team what that means, people reminding them that it's a privilege to be inside of people's homes and just giving them a view into the life and daily life of a Molly Maid customer and helping them explain through what the customer might be going through, why they're hiring us is huge as part of it. But the other really important part to remember is that it is impossible for us to be behind every single house checking, every last detail that's being done at every home. That's where we really start with what the values are. What are the things that we should, how do we teach our people to be grateful? How do we teach them to have compassion for the customer? How do we give them the why behind everything we're doing? So it's no longer like you need to clean the bottom shelf, it's you need to clean that bottom shelf because this is a customer who has a certain illness and there if you don't do it, there's nobody else that can do it for them.

So really explaining to our professionals the why behind it, give them values and then let those values show up in the work that they're doing every day. It's something that is a franchise owner and then now as a corporate leader, it's important that we communicate to people and really give them clarity around what they're doing.

Stephen Sakach (4:41)

I've had family in this business and that why that you just kind of articulated there, I think once they had that kind of realization as to what they're doing, it really changed kind of the work for them as well because it can be tiring work, but once they kind of understood exactly kind of what you articulated, that was really kind of the difference maker, I think, for how they were able to feel energized and bring that exactly those values to play for them.
